On Friday, June 24, the U.S. Supreme Court announced its decision in the Dobbs v. Jackson case related to the authority of states to regulate abortion. The Court ruled in favor of Dobbs, allowing for states to restrict access to abortion - including banning the procedure.

The Court’s decision coincided with the Fraternity's 2022 Convention. Prior to Friday (and prior to the leak of the decision in May), the Fraternity proactively communicated to Convention attendees as to the likelihood that the Court’s decision would be announced while we were assembled. We believe the ability for some of us to be together this weekend allowed sisters to support and dialogue with one another while also completing the Fraternity's required business during Plenary sessions.

This ruling has had an immediate impact on women (and people with uteruses) across the country. As women of substance, character and influence, it is not only our hope, but belief that we continue to encourage dialogue, compassion and understanding within the walls of our Pyramid. It is core to our organization as evidenced in our twin ideals, “The Brotherhood of Man and the Alleviation of the World’s Pain,” and we will continue to provide resources and tools for our sisters to process and dialogue.
