We join today in ongoing prayer for the victims of an explosion and two alarm-fire in Gaithersburg on Nov. 16, which sent more than 10 people to the hospital, including four children.
The explosion shook the Potomac Oaks Condominium on Quince Orchard Boulevard, near Epworth UMC, where the Rev. Jennifer Fenner is pastor. First responders and Washington Gas and Electric officials addressed the blast and contained the fire within hours. Several families served by Epworth live in the condominiums and have been profoundly affected by the damage.
According to news reports, two buildings sustained significant damage and partially collapsed in the blast. Two other buildings were also evacuated because they may have structural damage. Many people were evacuated and are in temporary shelters.
In the wake of a disaster such as this, we are reminded of the fragility and vulnerability that marks each of our lives in different ways. Our stability can only be found through the unchanging hand and love of God. Let us pray for one another and, in this season of Thanksgiving, reach out to those in our communities who are in need.
