Dear SGWS Families,

The mode of learning will be determined by the administration and communicated to parents and teachers based on Summit County's risk level in the Ohio Public Health Advisory System (OPHAS).

County Level
The current county OPHAS level is Level 4 Purple.  This means Summit County has met 6 of the 7 indicators including new cases per capita, sustained increase in new cases, sustained increase in Emergency Department visits for COVID-19 like illness, sustained increase in outpatient visits for COVID-19 like illness, sustained increase in new COVID-19 hospital admissions, and percentage of occupied ICU beds.
At this level, the learning mode for the week of 12/7 is full distance learning for all students. To return to the hybrid mode of learning, we will need to be at Level 3 Red for three weeks. To view our Phased Learning Plan, see "Planning for Phases" in the FAQ section of our COVID-19 school update site.
We will be in distance learning from now until winter break on December 18th.  We will communicate the county level and anticipated learning mode weekly to support the parent/guardian's ability to plan for the week of January 4, when school resumes after winter break.
Most of our teachers were able to send home student supplies that will last until winter break.  If the students need additional supplies or were not in attendance in person to receive their supplies, your class teacher will be in touch to let you know how to pick them up.
All students will be following the full time distance learning schedule which can be found on the Class Resource Pages on our website.
This is an extremely difficult time, and as a community we have been working together to meet these challenges. We are in this together and we can each do our part to support both our SGWS community and the greater community at large. We hope you will continue to abide by local health guidelines and recommendations, particularly wearing masks, avoiding group gatherings, practicing social distancing, and maintaining healthy practices and habits. This will help resume in-person learning at the earliest opportunity and is one of many instances where the actions of each of us as individuals multiplied by our sheer numbers, can make a difference.  Let's do our part to help work toward this goal with love and caring for each other.
We will continue to communicate the county OPHAS level along with our current and anticipated learning phases each Friday.  For the latest information, please refer to the  COVID-19 School Update Section of our website.

Dates and Details
Summit County was at Red Watch last week and is at Purple this week.  We will be in distance learning for the week of 12/7 and the mode of learning will remain distance learning until winter break.  We need to be at a County Level 3, Red for three weeks to return to hybrid learning, which means the earliest possible return for our students is the week of 1/4. We will continue to communicate the county level and anticipated learning phase weekly.

During these difficult times, keeping the lines of communication open is at the top of our priority list.  Please feel welcome to call or email me with any questions or concerns as we continue to navigate the pandemic and our response.
