Emergency Student Aid Appeal

Dear Chabot Community,

Throughout the daily, and sometimes hourly, changes presented by the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and call to shelter-in-place, we have been inspired by our community’s grace and fortitude.

Today, we call upon you to help our Chabot College students most severely impacted by this challenging time. While most instruction and services have transitioned to online delivery, some essential resources – such as food pantry services and laptop lending libraries– are not as easy to deliver remotely. While we navigate how to best transition these services to remote delivery, we would like to call your attention to a few emerging needs:

Over 60% of our students work 20 or more hours a week, with many of our students working hourly jobs in the service industry (i.e. restaurants, entertainment). Students are losing their jobs or having significant hours cut.
Students already facing technology access issues now have to take all their courses remotely.
With kids home from school and daycares closed, this leaves our student parents having to juggle taking care of kids while adjusting to learning remotely.

For many of our students living paycheck-to-paycheck, facing one, if not all of these challenges can be detrimental. This is where we need your help.

WAYS TO GIVE

Emergency Aid Funds

Using the button, please help meet these emerging student needs by donating to our Emergency Aid Funds: The Friends of Chabot College Fund and the Chabot Academic Senate Fund. Your donation is tax-deductible. Examples of what funds may be used for include:

$200-$250 pays for a student Chromebook
$9.99/month pays for a Wi-Fi internet subscription
Basic needs, such as food and living expenses

Laptop Donations

We are looking for laptop donations. Once received, the District's Information Technology Services will scrub the device before distributing to a student.

Chabot College has several Special Programs that organize our students into learning communities and cohorts, making the 14,000 student body more community-based within these programs. Special Programs typically serve students who are educationally and/or economically disadvantaged, the first in their families to attend college, have some form of a disability, and/or a single parent. About 1,700 laptops are needed to support these students.
