November 17, 2020: Response to Purple Tier Announcement
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
Blessings in and through Christ, Saints!

Let us begin by rejoicing and giving thanks to our Lord and Savior who continues to protect our parents, students, faculty, staff, and ministry. I would also like to personally thank each of our parents for the amazing partnership we have built and nourished, not only through times of joy, but also through a pandemic, and most recently, an evacuation of the campus. Thank you!

On Monday, November 16, Governor Newsom announced that multiple counties, including Orange County, have moved to the state’s most restrictive Purple Tier.  While the purple tier imposes restrictions on business and activities, the Blueprint for a Safer Economy states, “Schools that have reopened for in-person instruction are not required to close if their county moves back to the Widespread (purple) tier.” This means we may continue in-person instruction.

Crean Lutheran will continue to work alongside the Orange County Health Care Agency and California Department of Public Health as updates to this guidance are communicated. The safety of our students is a top priority and our health and safety protocols for on-ground instruction have worked to slow the spread of the coronavirus within our Saints Community. To date, four Crean Lutheran students have tested positive for COVID, however, no reports or tracing efforts have indicated that COVID-19 was acquired while at school or at a school-related activity. Furthermore, we are fortunate to report that all COVID-positive students have either recovered or are in good spirits and soon to recover.

In response to moving to the most restrictive tier, a tier in which we have not operated on-ground instruction to date, we are updating our reopening plan to include active temperature screening of each student prior the start of each period on campus. This active screening will not begin until students return from the Thanksgiving break.  Along with our established disinfecting protocols, teachers will screen each student’s wrist with a contactless thermometer. Crean Lutheran is asking those who are not feeling well to rest and recover at home prior to attending school.  If a student has a temperature of 100.4, parents will be notified and that student must remain home until at least 24 hours after the student no longer has a fever or signs of a fever, without the use of fever-reducing medication.  At-home screening should continue and occur each day prior to a student arriving to campus.

As Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks are approaching, Crean Lutheran asks that you observe the state’s most recent updated travel advisory.  This advisory states, “Persons arriving in California from other states or countries, including returning California residents, should practice self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival.” This includes students who may be traveling for the holidays or who have traveled out of state for club sports. If your family has travel scheduled, please notify the attendance office at [email protected].

Thank you for your ongoing prayers, support, and partnership in keeping our Crean Lutheran Saints community safe. Your efforts are seen and greatly appreciated.

In Christ,
Mrs. Christine Cosenza
