Dear Friends,
I am writing to share the sad news that Nancy Kelly, our friend, Board Vice President, and supporter from the founding of the NY Chaplaincy, died on Friday, February 9th in Garden City Park, NY.
Nancy is so tightly woven into the tapestry of the NY Race Track Chaplaincy that it is thankfully not possible, in life or in death, to separate one from the other.
Nancy’s very soul breathed the mission of the Chaplaincy and she dedicated a good part of her life and career not only to our organization but to the broader family of the backstretch community across the country.
As we mourn her passing we do so with the knowledge that she followed God’s plan throughout her life in service to others.
Because of her selfless service, she leaves the imprint of her God-given talents and love and dedication upon so many who crossed her path. She quietly helped those who work behind the scenes to navigate their lives in their most challenging times, and countless individuals can say, “She was there when I needed her most.”
We will miss Nancy and we pray for comfort and peace for her family, including her sister Fran Dtugokenski, brother-in-law Ray Dtugokenski and nieces Lisa Locurto and Michelle Mirabile as well as four grand-nieces and two grand-nephews.
May her memory serve as an inspiration to all who serve, desiring nothing in return, with gratitude for the opportunity to share God’s love.
Blessings,
