The Rev. Arnold A. Fenton, 91, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018 in Sandpoint, Idaho. A memorial service will be held at All Souls’, San Diego on Saturday, January 5 at 10 a.m.
Father Fenton was born on March 28, 1927 in Westfield, New Jersey to Arnold and Carla Fenton. He was graduated from Lafayette College in 1948 with an English Literature degree. He then entered General Theological Seminary in New York, following in the steps of his grandfather and father as Episcopal priests.
After ordination in 1951 he was a curate at Christ Church Cathedral, Springfield, MA. He went on to serve as a Navy chaplain during the end of the Korean War. Throughout his priesthood he served as rector of St. Stephen’s, Longview, WA; Christ Church, Tacoma, WA; Christ Church, Grosse Pointe, MI; All Souls’, San Diego, CA ; and St. Matthew’s, Pacific Palisades, CA, from which he retired in 1990.
During retirement he served as an interim rector in eight parishes in Southern California. He served in numerous diocesan posts including deputy to the General Convention, diocesan chairman of the Los Angeles General Convention, West Coast Chair for Venture in Mission, and co-founder of SALT (Supervisors and Leadership Training).
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Fenton of Sandpoint, Idaho; his children Arnold A. Fenton, Christopher Fenton, Kimberly Hesse, Deborah Connolly Eggleston and William F. Connolly; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and by his brother Noel Fenton.
