**Breaking News** - 1st quarter UI payments delayed
The Governor's Office filed emergency regulations this afternoon to address an unexpected increase in Unemployment Insurance bills that was being driven by an exponential increase in the solvency rate.
To provide employers with additional time to prepare for their Q1 contributions, the deadline to pay Q1 contributions for private contributory employers has been extended to Tuesday, June 1, 2021.
The Administration is further evaluating the solvency rate increase and will provide more information at a later date.
The unexpected increase in UI sent shock waves throughout the small business community, especially in the restaurant industry. First quarter bills were to be due at the end of the month.
Quarterly Employment and Wage Detail filings are still due by Friday, April 30, 2021, in order to maintain the integrity of the Unemployment Insurance system and ensure the system can continue paying claimants.

The MRA began actively working on this situation as soon as it came to light last week. We thank the operators and payroll companies that were first to act and recognize the impacts of this potentially devastating increase. We will continue to work with the Governor's office and the Legislature to come to a reasonable resolution on the solvency rate.
