More than online reservations, the Food Network

wants to connect consumers with restaurants by giving them a digital experience, as if they had

According to the National Restaurant Association's 2013 Restaurant Industry Forecast:

"Consumers' interest in technology continues unabated. Restaurant operators recognize that technology can enhance customer service and appeal to consumers, but they are not fully meeting consumer demand in this area yet.

At table service restaurants -  Nearly one-third would use mobile payment options, four in 10 would use tablet menus (such as iPads), and 50 percent would use a smartphone app for viewing menus, ordering or making reservations.

At quick service restaurants - two in five would use smartphone apps to place orders or view menus, and more than one-quarter would use mobile payment options.

Tips & Tricks

Are you carefully watching the trends in the restaurant industry?  The most successful restaurants do.

There are many great resources out there for restaurateurs. The National Restaurant Association produces a study every year called the Restaurant Industry Forecast.

Restaurant Startup and Growth is another creative resource for growing your business.

Sign up for their FREE Restaurant "Profit Tip" of the Week - they always have some great ideasOr follow them on Facebook!

I also enjoy the articles in their magazine. In the November issue, there is an article "Leverage Non-traditional Commercial Holidays to Drive Business".  How about celebrating "National Grilling Month" or "National Vanilla Ice Cream Day" and offer your customers a complimentary scoop.  Did you know that February 3rd is Pork Rind Appreciation Day?  Think about those possibilities!

Use the reporting built into your POS systems, to see which days of the week you would like to drive business and create your own event such as a chili cook off, a fashion show, wine tasting class.

For more ideas, go to the National Awareness Days website.  Use your imagination, create an event calendar, and then send out a newsletter blast to promote these special events.  Create a culture around your restaurant using events, classes and special promotions.

We at Skurla's wish you and your families, friends, and businesses a warm and happy holiday season!

Sincerely,
