NEW IBERIA, La. --- New Iberia Main Street Program is soliciting Main Street Restoration Grant (RIG) applications from downtown commercial building and/or business owners.
The Louisiana Main Street program will offer
two types of competitive grants – a
$10,000 grant for major projects, and a
$2,500 grant for minor projects available for either interior or exterior rehabilitation. This grant requires a dollar-for-dollar monetary match toward hard costs. Grant funds are limited to actual construction/restoration hard costs only. If approved, the award is paid upon completion of the work described in the scope of work.
All applications received will compete statewide for funding with other Main Street communities. Over the years, New Iberia Main Street has received nearly $135,000 in redevelopment grant funds from the Louisiana Main Street program, initiating $41 million in local projects costs plus associated jobs and economic stimulation.
To be eligible for Main Street Restoration Grant funds, a building must be located within the downtown Main Street district, used for commercial purposes, and be at least 50 years old. In addition, the local Historic District Commission, and the Louisiana Main Street office must approve the proposed work, while also conforming to the guidelines set forth by the Secretary of the Interior Standards for Rehabilitation.
RIG Grant applications must be completed and turned into the New Iberia Main Street office by noon on
Thursday, June 21, 2018; then the New Iberia Historic District Commission will meet on
Monday, June 25, 2018 to review the applications for eligibility compliance, then forward to the state office prior to June 29.
All work must be completed by Tuesday, April 30, 2019 to be eligible for reimbursement.
