Also on the National Register of Historic Places is the Sophian Plaza in Kansas City, MO. Located just east of the Plaza and opened in 1923, the building was added to the register in 1983.
The beautiful patio attached to the rear of the building had deteriorated due to water intrusion and exposure to the elements through the years.
MTS Kansas City was entrusted to restore the historic patio and provide some needed drainage solutions. The tiles on the patio were removed, as was the topping slab beneath. An old coating beneath the slab was also removed. A drainage system to direct water away from the patio was installed and a new waterproofing membrane was applied. Compacted sand was placed on the membrane and the tiles were then re-laid in the same pattern they had been laid previously.
Much of the stone facade around the patio was deteriorated. The old stone was removed and replaced with a new stone veneer to match the original stone.
