Rachel Zenzinger for Colorado Senate District 19
Rachel Zenzinger
Colorado Senate Candidate
March 21, 2016
Feeling honored, thrilled;
We get the nomination!

We're official!

At an assembly of Jefferson County delegates, the Democratic Party voted to put me on the ballot as their candidate for State Senate.

I couldn't be happier or more honored.
Hundreds of delegates representing District 19 listened attentively as former Sen. Evie Hudak nominated me for this position, and then former Sen. Sue Windels offered up the "second."

Th SD19 Delegates e recurring theme in their short speeches (and one that I echoed) was the huge impact that this election will have on the future of Colorado politics. Specifically, we have a chance to regain the majority in the Senate if we can take a single seat without losing any others. We think this election gives Democrats the best chance, because we lost by a razor-thin margin of 668 votes last time, and we think it is more than likely that we will find those votes this time around. If the enthusiasm of that group of delegates in the gymnasium at Bear Creek High School translates to the campaign trail, we will have nothing to worry about!
Thank you to the party officials who conducted such a well-organized event, and thanks especially to the delegates who expressed their confidence in me with their vote.

From my speech, 2 themes

I tried to make clear to the audience of delegates that we should consider two huge impacts of this election. First, the results could improve the quality of our children's lives by improving their educational environments, creating an economy with access to livable-wage jobs, and helping to preserve their freedoms.

Second, the challenger in this election is a right-wing extremist who has repeatedly expressed her support for Donald Trump; who has been described as one of the eight most conservative members of the Colorado legislature; and whose deference to big-money lobbyists (e.g. Americans for Prosperity) has threatened to stack the deck against middle-class workers.

If the issues in the first message resonate with you, and if the items in the second message worry you, then I hope you will lend your support to this campaign, either by sending a contribution or by signing up to volunteer, or both.

We got some great photos at the County Assembly (including the one here of our volunteers), and you can find two different sets on the campaign website and the official Facebook page. I hope you will check them out, and see whether you can spot yourself or friends!

Volunteer opportunities

We will "step up" our door-to-door efforts in coming weeks, and if you're interested in talking face-to-face with other voters, this is your chance! Contact us  to sign up for a canvassing shift, and we will give you whatever training/preparation you need. You do not need to be an "expert" about this campaign or its issues. You will only have to engage with voters on a level that makes you comfortable.
Volunteers, save the date!

We will have an exclusive volunteer event Sunday, May 1, so please save the date! We hope to raise some funds at the event, have some fun, and energize the campaign. Look for more information in the next newsletter.
Can you help Westminster?

We're recruiting friends of the Rachel Zenzinger campaign to participate in the City of Westminster community clean-up event May 14. It starts around 8:30 a.m. at Little Dry Creek Trail just south of the Kaiser clinic on Sheridan. Please send an email to [email protected] if you would like to join us. We'll take a photo of the Zenzinger Team for use in the June newsletter and on Facebook; and the city will host a lunch afterward for all participants.
Donations

Every important political campaign these days requires significant funding, and this one is no exception. We need to find a way to pay for brochures, direct mail pieces, advertisements and other tools to help make voters aware of their choices. Please consider making any level of contribution to the "Rachel Zenzinger for Colorado" campaign, and help me get elected in 2016.
