Madison Timmreck was that athlete that woudl fall in and out of shape between seasons.  Then she discovered Bay Athletic Club's Wildcat Sweat workouts and she uncovered a love for consistent fitness in her life.  Today she is stronger, faster and performing better on the field and the court.  We loved sharing her story this past Monday night on the WBKB 6pm news.    You can watch the replay right here!

BAC Trainers Tracie Granata and Sarah Morrison visited Immanuel Lutheran School this morning, leading all of the students through a 20 minute workout. The children did an obstacle course, played a game called Ships and Sailors and ended with a dance party. They had a blast!

It was all part of ACES, which stands for all children exercise simultaneously.

It's been a full month of BAC Rewards!  We love celebrating your fitness milestones with you.  We offer BAC Rewards to all members who get consistent with their workouts.  When a new member hits at least 20 check-ins during their first two months they get a "BAC Feels Like Home" t-shirt.  At 100 check-ins you get a BAC backpack and at 200 check-ins you get a BAC windbreaker!

Community Outreach

Yoga instructor Margaret Negro spent some time with Oscoda preschoolers in April, sharing with them the power and fun of Yoga.
We were happy to raise $310 in our April Sweat for a Cause to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Congrats to BAC personal trainer and passionate Make-A-Wish supporter Sam Kendziorski for leading the cause.   Look for details on our May Sweat for a Cause event below!

Amy Schultz's role as a dental hygenist and a personal trainer at Bay Athletic Club gave her
a unique perspective to share with a group of caregivers. She spoke to them about the importance of oral health but also the importance of exercise and foods you choose and how they affect your teeth and your body. She also got to raffle off a month membership to the club!

Shakeology of the Month
CHOCOLATE PB & J SHAKEOLOGY
It tastes like dessert, but acts like a multivitamin!

Why Shakeology?
We all struggle with food prep and getting all the nutrients we need in life every day. Shakeology solves both of those problems.  It literally fills the gaps in our daily nutrition. We still advocate eating clean, colorful, whole foods for your daily meals. Shakeology is a multivitamin in a meal.

It is quick, convenient and filled with vitamins, minerals, superfoods, probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants and protein. It is NOT a diet shake or a quick fix. It is whole food nutrition.

Need Shakeology at home for YOUR family? FREE shaker cup with purchase!

HEALTHY LIVING RECIPE
by Kelly Lake
Chicken Teriyaki Meatballs with Broccoli and Snow Peas
I've made this dish twice in two weeks and have fallen for the fresh, grated ginger and perky scallion flavor. The first time I used baby bok choy instead of broccoli and honestly didn't prefer it to the sturdy crunch of the broccoli. Feel free to experiment with ingredients but don't wait to make this dish...it's a perfect reminder that Spring is in the air. Enjoy!
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups long-grain rice
1 pound ground chicken
4 scallions, chopped and divided
2 TBSP grated fresh ginger (a piece about the size of your thumb)
1 TBSP canola oil
3 cups (approx.) snow peas
1 head broccoli
1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Directions
Cook the rice according to the package directions. Heat the oven to 350 degrees. In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce and sugar.
While the rice is cooking, in a large bowl, combine the chicken, scallions, and ginger. Shape into 8 meatballs. Set a large steamer pot to boil for the vegetables.

Heat oil in a large oven proof skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the meatballs, turning once when browned, and then an additional 1 to 2 minutes on the second side. Remove from heat and place in the oven to finish cooking.
When the rice has 10 minutes of cooking time left, add the vegetables to the steamer pot, cover with the lid and allow to steam for 5 minutes. Drain quickly. Add vegetables and sauce to the meatballs.
Simmer until slightly thickened, 2 to 3 minutes. Serve over the rice and garnish with additional scallions.
Serves four

Tip: To keep the ground chicken from sticking to your fingers, wet your hands before forming the meatballs

Keeping Fitness, Fresh and Fun

Our  driving goal at Bay Athletic Club is to keep our current members happy and e ngaged. You matter. You success impacts the health and happiness of our whole community. We want you to feel welcomed and inspired in our walls.

We love seeing you accomplish workouts and attend classes at BAC and Bay Urban Fitness. Each month, we also offer specialty boot camps to help you keep things fresh and fun.

In April, we held our first-ever 30 Day Transformation Challenge with more than 75 members and friends. We committed to a month of fitness activities -- from boxing to step workouts to outdoor hikes. We tracked our food and water, enjoyed new recipes from our Nutrition Educator, Amanda Freeland, went on a grocery store tour and enjoyed healthy snacks after a workout.

This camp was fun and as the incredible weight loss and fitness results roll in today, I am reminded the power of daily choices.

Shout out to camper Ryan Miller who has done back to back boot camps at BAC and is
down 43 lbs since he started in December. Check out his results and his smile!

My friends, THIS is why we do what we do at Bay Athletic Club. To transform lives, households, families and futures.

PS - need some extra help? Talk to Membership Director Courtney Holmes to find a camp, training package or fitness program to fit YOUR goals.

Sincerely,
Trina Gray,  Owner, BAC and Bay Urban Fitness

TIPS FROM NUTRITION EDUCATOR AMANDA FREELAND
NUTRITION TIP: Many people work hard on their nutrition but still feel like they are struggling to lose weight.  Sometimes, this is due to ignoring the snacks we are eating throughout the day.  Snacking can lead to overeating, excess calorie intake and can create habits that are harder to break.  Snacks are a great thing between meals if you are hungry, but often times people think they need to have a snack between breakfast and lunch and again between lunch and dinner.  It is important to listen to what your body is telling you and not always fall into a routine.

Here are some tips for listening to your body:
1.  If you do find yourself craving snacks a lot this could be your body telling you it is lacking a certain vitamin or mineral.  For example, if you crave chocolate you are likely lacking in magnesium.
2.  Starting your day with water and continuing to drink it throughout the day can lower your desire to snack.
3.  Eating a breakfast with healthy carbohydrates, vegetables and lean protein will lessen your snack attacks.
4.  If you have a big time block between meals don't feel guilty about reaching for a snack, just make sure you are picking a healthy one that keeps you full and doesn't lead to a sugar crash.  Some great snack options include raw veggies with hummus, nuts, Beachbars, Greek yogurt, hard boiled egg, apple and peanut butter and homemade venison jerky.

null FOOD SWAP: Speaking of snacks, have you tried Beachbars?  With 5 grams of sugar, 150 calories and 10 grams of protein they are a great option.  There are no preservatives and they won't spike your blood sugar.  I think they are a great option for kids too versus a sugar filled granola bar or bag of fruit snacks. You can buy at club or click HERE to get some for home.

SUCCESS STORY: Rachael Goold decided that she was ready to feel better and take control of her health.  Even with a 40 minute drive she knew that becoming a BAC member would keep her accountable.  In addition to having a membership, Rachael was looking for more guidance and accountability with her nutrition so she decided to purchase a personal training three pack.  In seven weeks Rachel met with me three times for a combination of nutrition consultation and personal training sessions.  She has lost five inches and three pounds and says she feels so much better because she is getting stronger and has a plan in place!

TAKE ACTION OVER YOUR NUTRITION:
We offer a 3-pack of personal training for $95.
You can mix and match your sessions to include personal training for fitness and/or nutrition coaching with Amanda.
