Hello Business,

Welcome to August!

In the eighteenth week of ordinary time, we hear about we need to focus less on the “perishable” food in our lives and more on the eternal food, which is Christ Himself, for our eternal life. This food nourishes our deepest spiritual wants and needs.

In Paul’s letter we are urged to replace our old and empty ways with a new self that is focused on getting us closer to God and holiness not just with deeds but our hearts and minds.

Upcoming Events and Opportunities:

Dear Possible Pilgrim,
We are set to go! All of the arrangements have been made by Catholic Travel Centre and we are ready for people to register for this pilgrimage. There will be space for a maximum of 46 pilgrims on this journey to some of the holiest sites in Ireland.
Please access the link below which will take you to the necessary paperwork for registering for this pilgrimage. Each pilgrim is responsible for arranging for airline travel to Dublin. We will meet our guide at the Dublin airport at Noon on May 13. Personally, I am scheduled on Delta flight #2175 from Portland to Dublin, leaving at 1:25 pm, on Monday, May 12, stopping at MPLS-ST PAUL, and then arriving in Dublin at 10:45 am on May 13. That is just one example. There are a number of flights from Portland to Dublin.

Family Promise is a national organization founded in 1986 under the name National Interfaith Hospitality Network. They operate shelters all across the country with the intention of keeping families together through crisis. They provide a clean, dignified place to live as well as many resources to help the families get back on their feet and find homes again.

The Oregon chapter operates out of Tigard with a repurposed hotel serving as a shelter. The Resurrection community, as well as multiple other churches and non-profit organizations, work with Family Promise to provide it's guests with care, enrichment, and a hand up into a better, more stable life.

This is our Summer Book Group! These are folks who have been gathering over the summer to share faith and talk about the Matthew Kelly book, "Rediscovering Jesus". Our last session will be on Sunday, August 11, after the 11:00 Mass. It's been rich!

A Message from The Archbishop

I have been your archbishop here in Western Oregon for 11 years now, and I want you to know that through much consultation, a lot of listening, but more importantly, a lot of prayer, I believe the Lord has put on my heart a clear vision and mission forward for us here as the church in Western Oregon.

And it centers around three things:

1.      a strong and united brotherhood of priests,

2.      mission-passionate Catholic education, and

3.      parishes and a people formed to evangelize.

The Archbishop's Catholic appeal helps make this Vision a reality.

By giving to the ACA you have a direct impact on our priests, schools, parishes, and all the vital programs and ministries that we all depend upon to sustain the Catholic Church in Western Oregon for today and for future generations.

-Archbishop Alexander K. Sample

***We would like to thank the 91 donors from Resurrection, which have contributed to the Archbishops Catholic Appeal. Your support is appreciated.***

Those of us who live in West Linn and Tualatin are aware that we live in affluent communities. However, we may not be aware that in 2022 - 3.3% of West Linn families and 9.5% of Tualatin families were living below the poverty line. Resurrection's Saint Vincent de Paul Conference assists some of these families by helping to pay their rent and utilities and delivering needed food to them.

In June, we delivered food to 10 families, 47 people.

We also helped pay rent and utilities for 23 families, 51 people.

Thank you for your continued support of our mission.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) Portland Council is looking for donations for our new thrift store opening this fall! Proceeds from the store will support our Emergency Services programs, which provide food, rent, and utilities assistance to those in need.

By donating items to SVdP, you are not only giving a second life to your belongings but also making a tangible difference in our community. Our donation drop-off site is open from Thursday through Sunday, 9:00am – 4:00pm each weekend at our new store location, 17108 SE Powell Blvd, Portland, OR 97236.

QCD

A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) allows individuals who are 70½ years old or older to donate up to $105,000 total to one or more charities directly from a taxable IRA instead of taking their required minimum distributions.

RMD

Required minimum distributions (RMDs) are the minimum amounts you must withdraw from your retirement accounts each year. You generally must start taking withdrawals from your traditional IRA, SEP IRA, SIMPLE IRA, and retirement plan accounts when you reach age 72.

If you are over 72 years of age you qualify to take annual distributions from your retirement account to make tax free donations to charities of your choice.

Resurrection Church is a qualified public charity 501(c)(3) and can receive your QCD.

We thank you in advance for considering Resurrection Catholic Church and School as recipients of your donations.
