Hello Business,

This 3rd Sunday in Advent is traditionally known as Gaudete Sunday. Gaudete is the Latin word meaning “rejoice.” As we celebrate Mass this weekend and light the pink candle, you are welcome to wear pink as an outward sign of our rejoicing this Advent season.

The state of joy that the readings refer to is a contrast with the feeling of happiness. Joy is a choice that is deliberate and intentional, not a temporary state like happiness. Joy is a deep condition of being at peace with the knowledge that God is in control.

Livestream the Mass on Sunday at 11:00am on our Facebook page.

Upcoming Events and Opportunities:

Dear Fellow Steward,

Christmas is traditionally a season of giving. As God the Father gave us His Son for our salvation, so we are called to give of ourselves to others- to love God, love others, and make disciples of all people by sharing the gifts God has given us. This includes sharing our time, talent and treasure.

As we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus, I ask that you consider what it means to be a good steward of the gifts God has given you. Prayerfully reflect on the blessings in your life, and how you might express gratitude to God for those blessings. Thank you for your generosity, and may the joy and love of Jesus fill your heart this Christmas.

~Fr. Bill

Men who are considering the priesthood are invited to join Archbishop Sample, Fr. Peter Julia, and Archdiocese of Portland seminarians for a weekend retreat of prayer and conversation. Registration forms may be obtained from Fr. Bill.

“This year, when we conclude Advent, the universal Church will begin the 2025 Holy Year. A Jubilee or Holy Year is a time of prayer, pilgrimage, and acts of mercy, built on the Old Testament tradition of a jubilee year of rest, forgiveness, and renewal.

Holy Years first began in 1300; since 1490, they have been celebrated every twenty-five years. The last ordinary jubilee was the Great Jubilee of 2000.

Special anniversaries have called for extraordinary holy years: 1933 for the 1900th anniversary of Jesus’ death and resurrection, and 1983 for the 1050th anniversary. In 2015-2016, we saw an extraordinary Year of Mercy, emphasizing mercy and the need for the Church to keep alive the spirit of the Second Vatican Council.

The motto given to this Holy Year 2025 by Pope Francis is “Pilgrims of Hope,” in the belief that the year “can contribute greatly to restoring a climate of hope and trust as a prelude to the renewal and rebirth that we so urgently desire” after years of pandemic and suffering.”

— Janet Schaeffler, OP: Becoming Pilgrims of Hope | Advent 2024 Daily Reflections, Practices & Prayers

At Resurrection, we are preparing for the new Jubilee starting in Advent 2024 by reflecting, practicing and praying to “Become(ing) Pilgrims of Hope.” Pick up a copy of Janet Schaeffler’s booklet for Advent, quoted above, in Church.

Our aging religious need your help. Like those pictured here, more than 24,000 senior sisters, brothers, and religious order priests have dedicated their lives to service- praying, teaching, and caring for those in need- usually, for little to no pay. Today, their religious communities do not have enough retirements savings. Your donation is crucial and can help bridge this gap, providing critical support for their essential care, medicine, and daily needs. Please give back to those who have given a lifetime.

Members of the Resurrection Council of Saint Vincent de Paul want to send out a huge THANK YOU to all the parishioners who contributed to another successful year of Thanksgiving Boxes!

We collected 200 boxes from you, our parishioners. With additional contributions from the West Linn Rotary, Our Lady of the Lake and Metland Group, we had a grand total of 508 boxes!

Our volunteers delivered:

80 boxes to patrons of the West Linn Food Pantry;

6 to others in the community;

20 to parishioners of St. Peter's Parish;

372 at St. Peter's to those who signed up for boxes through the main office of Saint Vincent de Paul.

The 30 that were left went to the main office and pantry. Each person who received a box was also given a $25 gift card to buy a turkey.

In November, Saint Vincent de Paul delivered food to 13 families, 58 people.

Our next SVdP meeting is on Sunday, December 9th from 9:45am to 10:45am in Rossman Hall.

QCD

A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) allows individuals who are 70½ years old or older to donate up to $105,000 total to one or more charities directly from a taxable IRA instead of taking their required minimum distributions.

RMD

Required minimum distributions (RMDs) are the minimum amounts you must withdraw from your retirement accounts each year. You generally must start taking withdrawals from your traditional IRA, SEP IRA, SIMPLE IRA, and retirement plan accounts when you reach age 72.

If you are over 72 years of age you qualify to take annual distributions from your retirement account to make tax free donations to charities of your choice.

Resurrection Church is a qualified public charity 501(c)(3) and can receive your QCD.

We thank you in advance for considering Resurrection Catholic Church and School as recipients of your donations.
