Greetings!

The Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time invites us to rest in the gentleness of Jesus. These readings remind us that God’s mercy is steady and that peace is always possible, even when life feels heavy.

Zechariah promises a king who brings peace rather than violence, a vision offered to people who had endured deep hardship. God assures them that struggle is not the final chapter. Hope will rise again.

This promise is ours as well. The psalm celebrates God’s faithfulness, and Saint Paul urges us to live by the Spirit, choosing the path that leads to real life. In the Gospel, Jesus welcomes the weary and offers rest that is tender and healing. Discipleship becomes a source of freedom rather than burden.

Hard times can tempt us to rely only on ourselves, yet this often deepens our worry. Jesus invites us to trust him, surrender our need for control, and let his wisdom guide us. When we take his yoke upon us, our hearts find peace and our lives find direction.

This Sunday calls us to lean on Jesus with confidence. When life feels overwhelming, he remains present. We can turn to him, knowing he will never leave us to face our struggles alone.

Lessons from VBS

One of the lessons from the Catacomb of Priscilla...

The Apostles of the Early Church in the Roman Empire were all about spreading the good news.

“Spread the Good News!”—What IS the Good News? It is that the One True, Creator God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) who made each of us in God’s own Image, became a man and lived with us, so that He could let us get to know God (Father Son, Holy Spirit) and experience God’s tremendous love for us. Jesus says that if we want to know the Father, we can know Him by knowing the Son (himself). His law is LOVE.

What was the Bad News? –In Roman culture, we worshipped so many “gods” (over 72 different gods) who were created in man’s image...many times the worst of man’s image, jealous, petty, trite, narcissistic, vengeful, stingy, greedy, mean. Each entrance to a town, certain streets, markets, homes, public buildings, etc had a ‘god’ to whom you had to pay tribute. If you did it wrong, you were fearful of that particular “god” being vengeful or mean to you or your family, or your harvest, or business.

Talk about living in fear. Can you IMAGINE how GOOD the good news actually was!?!?! That there was ONE, Loving God. And to follow Him was all about loving God, learning to see yourself through God’s loving gaze, and loving one another!

Trade fear and superstition for love. What a message!

After the success of last year’s Jubilee Pilgrimage to The Grotto, we are planning another pilgrimage this summer to Mount Angel Abbey.

This is a wonderful opportunity to step away from the daily distractions of life and focus on solitude, peace, and prayer. Or to just enjoy some personal time from the hustle and bustle of life. Family and friends are welcome.

The Beatitudes: God’s Roadmap to Everlasting Joy

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.

Peace is more than the absence of conflict; it is an active pursuit of reconciliation, justice, and harmony according to God’s will. Peacemakers work for right relationships with God and others, reflecting God’s intentions and will. This Beatitude is about putting others’ needs first. One example may be changing long-held family traditions for the sake of peace and unity.

Ministry Information:

In June, Saint Vincent de Paul was blessed to provide assistance to 36 families, including 77 children. With school now out for the summer, many of these children

no longer have access to the school lunches they rely on during the year, placing additional strain on family food budgets.

To help support these families during the summer months, our pantry is especially in need of:

  • Canned ravioli (individual-sized)
  • Cereal
  • Juice
  • Canned fruit
  • Snacks
  • Cookies

Your generosity makes a meaningful difference in the lives of local families. Because of your continued compassion and support, children and parents in our community receive nourishment, hope, and encouragement when they need it most.

Thank you for being a blessing to our Saint Vincent de Paul families. Every donation, no matter the size, helps us share God's love and care with those facing difficult times. We are deeply grateful for your kindness and ongoing support.

Parishioner Milestones & Highlights:

Send us your birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, births and other notable events to be recognized.

There are two meaningful ways to give to our school:

• Endowment Fund – Contribute to our new endowment, blessed with matching gifts of up to $65,000, helping secure the future of Catholic education for generations to come. Your gift to the Endowment helps support the corpus of education. The income earned will help Resurrection School offer more tuition assistance, as well as do necessary improvements throughout the years. This is an investment that will support our school for years to come.

• School Support – Your gift directly extends tuition assistance, opening our doors wider to families in need.

QCD

A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) allows individuals who meet the age requirements old or older to donate up to one or more charities directly from a taxable IRA instead of taking their required minimum distributions.

RMD

Required minimum distributions (RMDs) are the minimum amounts you must withdraw from your retirement accounts each year. You generally must start taking withdrawals from your traditional IRA, SEP IRA, SIMPLE IRA, and retirement plan accounts when you meet the age requirements. Changes in deduction rules and limitations will impact how much you can deduct for donations.

Meeting the age requirements, you may qualify to take annual distributions from your retirement account to make tax free donations to charities of your choice.

Resurrection Church is a qualified public charity 501(c)(3) and can receive your QCD.

Contact your financial advisor for updated and relevant tax advise.

Will, Living Trust & Estate Planning

Include Resurrection Catholic Parish or School in your will, trust or estate planning. Your gift – no matter how big or small – ensures our church, school, or school endowment fund can continue all of the incredible work we do, and you will be making an impact in the lives of others for many years to come.

We are deeply grateful for your consideration in supporting

Resurrection Catholic Church and Resurrection Catholic Parish School

with your generous donations. Thank you for keeping us in your hearts.

Your parish family truly cares about you, and we want you to know how deeply grateful we are.

Thank you for sharing your time, talent, and treasure, as well as your faith, your presence, and your generous heart with our community. Your gifts and commitment bless our parish in so many meaningful ways.
