The Third Sunday After Pentecost
June 21, 2020

"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.
We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters through prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.

We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition, and
reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs,
hurts, joys, and interests."

Women's Bible Study
1st & 3rd Thursdays

The Women's Bible Study Group is reading The Red Tent by Anita Diamant.  We are meeting on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays in the Resurrection parking lot at 5:30 p.m.

All ladies are welcome to join us!  If you have any questions, please contact Denise Dorsey
(706-969-0514, [email protected]).

Her name is Dinah. In the Bible, her life is only hinted at in a brief and violent detour within the more familiar chapters of the Book of Genesis that tell of her father, Jacob, and his twelve sons.

Told in Dinah's voice, Anita Diamant imagines the traditions and turmoils of ancient womanhood--the world of the red tent. It begins with the story of the mothers--Leah, Rachel, Zilpah, and Bilhah--the four wives of Jacob. They love Dinah and give her gifts that sustain her through childhood, a calling to midwifery, and a new home in a foreign land. Dinah's story reaches out from a remarkable period of early history and creates an intimate connection with the past.

Deeply affecting, The Red Tent combines rich storytelling with a valuable achievement in modern fiction: a new view of biblical women's lives.

Thank you for being grateful, responsible stewards of the gifts we receive from God.   What a blessing and honor to be stewards of what God has given to us!  Thank you for supporting our ministry and mission at Resurrection and allowing Resurrection members to be beacons of light in our parish and out in the community.  No matter what amount you give to Resurrection, your gift makes a difference in the ministry and mission we do. As part of your spiritual discipline, we hope you will make sure to joyfully make your offering so we can continue to shine our light in the parish and in our community.

Friends,

Today, Bishop Wright in coordination with Bishop Logue of the Diocese of Georgia, presented guidelines for parishes to develop plans for a phased regathering for in-person worship. These guidelines were developed by the diocesan COVID-19 task force made up of doctors, health professionals and experts in this field. The Guidelines are solid public health-centered directions for shaping our regathering and developed with the guiding principle of love of God and neighbor. But as we know, Corona virus cases are not sustaining a decline in Georgia, so the guidelines are quite restrictive for the first phase of regathering. It sure is nice though to have a place to start.

So, the vestry has the guidelines and has a lot of work to do in the weeks ahead. You will be receiving a survey gauging your interest about when to begin a phased regathering. They will use this info and will be working on developing a detailed plan. The vestry will then need to submit the plan to the Bishop's office and submit a Certification that they intend to comply with the plan and Guidelines.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate this most unusual path along the way. Please know that any plan the vestry comes up with will take several weeks to develop and require lots of help to manage the process. If you would like to help be part of the regathering team, please let us know.

This is good news indeed! And remember, the church does not need to return from anyplace. We have been and are the church now even though we have not been meeting in-person. We sure look forward to being able to gather again and use our spaces. Until that time though, we can encourage each other in prayer, faithfulness, discipline, creativity, invitation, imagination and dignity in our Episcopal life together.

More information will be made available soon.

Peace,
The Rev. Scott Kidd, Rector
Dr. Joe Cash, Senior Warden

Holy and Mighty God, no matter how often we try to change our lives or our community, so often we fail. Knowing our weakness helps us turn to you in faith and daily recommit ourselves to those good works begun in the life of Jesus. Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

We pray for the church. Give us courage, wisdom, and love to live out our Baptismal Covenant in these days of fear and anguish. We ask your continuing blessings on our presiding bishop Michael Curry, our bishop Robert Wright, our assisting bishop Don Wimberly, our retired bishop Neil Alexander, and our priests Scott and Sue. Bless Brandon, Mallory, Fletcher and Finley as they begin this new chapter in their lives at Virginia Theological Seminary this summer. Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

Almighty God, we pray for our president Donald, for the leaders of the nations, and for all in authority, that they may compassionately work for justice and peace.  Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

We pray for all members of our armed services; protect and defend our troops in deployments in combat zones. Pray for Reyna Cruz, Jamie Davey, Jordan Davey, Brett Turner, Jennifer Parrish, Bart Ziccardi, Robert Rish, Kayla Ziccardi, Frank Caruccio, Joseph Lorenz, Wayne Lovell, Jessica Stephens, Mitchell Stephens, Brandon Richards, Drew Camp, and Jason Gregoryk. Guide, guard, and protect all law enforcement and first responders, including Don Scalia. Please cover all health care workers with your blessings of protection and strength as they work to save lives, including Dr. William Koeppel, Marika Csatary, JM Kidd, Chloe Gedney, Jackie Hayes, Dr. Barbara Camp, Roxanne Hall, Susie Murray, Susan Smith, and Candler Kimsey. They need our prayers, thanks, and love in facing the uncertainty of this continuing pandemic. Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

Lord, God our healer, we pray for health and healing for all creation. Keep us steadfast in prayer and action to choose health and life in every situation. Protect all frontline essential workers as they bravely go about their duties. We pray for them and for the sick, the lonely, and their caregivers. Let them experience health and wholeness in your healing presence. Pray for Carol, Helen, Kelly, Bob, Lloyd, Stephen, Gil, Jennifer, Kevin, Jackie, Kelli, Luci, Sharon, Billy, Helen, Genny, Gordon, Jon, Opal, Glenda, Diane, Chris, David, Charlene, Scott, Genie, and Dennis. Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

Most holy God, we pray for Hannah Kidd Kogel as she awaits the birth of her child. We pray for newborns, infants, and children of all ages. Protect them from every danger and sickness. Restore all children separated from their families. In this time, shield all children with safety, love, and peace.  Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

Compassionate God, comfort all who mourn for loved ones lost to sickness, accidents, and injustice. As we recognize our own fragility, help us to realize and celebrate the sacredness of every life. Pray for all who mourn at this time. Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

O God our constant companion, this week help us to push back the darkness that seems to envelop our world today. In you we see light and through Jesus your light shines in us. He told us to reflect his light into our homes and communities. In his light we will see more clearly the way to peace. Help us. Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

Gracious God, we are joyful and thankful for these among us celebrating birthdays, including Aubrey Bolton, Katie Lynam, and Morgan Johnston, and those celebrating anniversaries, including Katie & Wayne Hardy and Jennifer & Steve Smith. Bless their accomplishments and their plans. Give them joy as they celebrate these landmarks in their lives. Holy Lord, hear our prayer.
