Her name is Dinah. In the Bible, her life is only hinted at in a brief and violent detour within the more familiar chapters of the Book of Genesis that tell of her father, Jacob, and his twelve sons.

Told in Dinah's voice, Anita Diamant imagines the traditions and turmoils of ancient womanhood--the world of the red tent. Today, Bishop Wright in coordination with Bishop Logue of the Diocese of Georgia, presented guidelines for parishes to develop plans for a phased regathering for in-person worship. These guidelines were developed by the diocesan COVID-19 task force made up of doctors, health professionals and experts in this field. The Guidelines are solid public health-centered directions for shaping our regathering and developed with the guiding principle of love of God and neighbor. But as we know, Corona virus cases are not sustaining a decline in Georgia, so the guidelines are quite restrictive for the first phase of regathering. It sure is nice though to have a place to start.

 

So, the vestry has the guidelines and has a lot of work to do in the weeks ahead. You will be receiving a survey gauging your interest about when to begin a phased regathering. They will use this info and will be working on developing a detailed plan. The vestry will then need to submit the plan to the Bishop's office and submit a Certification that they intend to comply with the plan and Guidelines.

 

Thank you for your patience as we navigate this most unusual path along the way. Please know that any plan the vestry comes up with will take several weeks to develop and require lots of help to manage the process. If you would like to help be part of the regathering team, please let us know.

 

This is good news indeed! And remember, the church does not need to return from anyplace. We have been and are the church now even though we have not been meeting in-person. We sure look forward to being able to gather again and use our spaces. Until that time though, we can encourage each other in prayer, faithfulness, discipline, creativity, invitation, imagination and dignity in our Episcopal life together.
