Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost
August 26, 2018

"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.
We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters through prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.

We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition, and
reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs,
hurts, joys, and interests."

The Bread Theme Continues

John 6:56-69

Jesus said, "Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors ate, and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live forever." He said these things while he was teaching in the synagogue at Capernaum.

When many of his disciples heard it, they said, "This teaching is difficult; who can accept it?" But Jesus, being aware that his disciples were complaining about it, said to them, "Does this offend you? Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But among you there are some who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the first who were the ones that did not believe, and who was the one that would betray him. And he said, "For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted by the Father."

Because of this many of his disciples turned back and no longer went about with him. So Jesus asked the twelve, "Do you also wish to go away?" Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."

Preschool News

It's Pet Week! We read Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons, then we added and subtracted using buttons.  This was also a great following directions activity. The little ones had fun with Play-Doh .

This Sunday's

Anthem:

You Are My All in All
Dennis Jernigan

You are my strength when I am weak
You are the treasure that I seek
You are my all in all
Seeking You as a precious jewel
Lord to give up I'd be a fool
You are my all in all

Jesus Lamb of God worthy is your name
Jesus Lamb of God worthy is your name

Taking my sin my cross my shame
Rising again I bless your name
You are my all in all
When I fall down you pick me up
When I am dry You fill my cup
You are my all in all

Jesus Lamb of God worthy is your name
Jesus Lamb of God worthy is your name

Communion Hymn:

Come, Come to the Table
Eleanor LaForge

Refrain:
Come, come, come to the table;
Come and meet Jesus, your savior and lord;
Come, come, come to the table;
Come share the gift of  His body and blood.

We are all part of the body of Christ,
Each man, each woman, each child;
Coming together to worship and praise;
We are redeemed and our sins reconciled!

Celebrate freedom from sorrow and sin,
Jesus has given us joy!
Share in the spirit, the fire deep within;
Sing out your praises to God and rejoice!

You are my brother, my neighbor, my friend;
Jesus has made us all one.
Each has a part of a life without end,
Bought by the blood of Christ, God's only son!
New Year Begins in September!

I will be offering a second year beginning in September called ACTS (Adult Christian Theological Study). The group will meet Wednesday evenings at 6:00 for approximately 90 minutes for the school calendar year, taking the same days and weeks off as the school calendar. This group this year will do an in-depth exploration of the New Testament and Theology, coupled with an intimate small group supportive learning environment.

The only costs will be for the text books, which will total less than $40.

I hope that the outcome of this group will be to theologically educate individuals properly who can think theologically about today's challenges of loving God and neighbor.

The only requirements to be part of this group is that you seek Christian maturity, have an open mind for inquisitive learning, an open heart for mutual group peer support, and a willingness to regularly attend the agreed-upon meetings for the school year.

If you are interested in this group, please reply to me, frscott3@gmail.com.

TIME FLIES, and yes . . . it's time again to start thinking about the annual Women's Retreat.

As last year, the retreat will be held at the Bishop's Retreat Center at Camp Mikell, Toccoa, GA.  The cost for great food, great programming, optional crafts, hiking, lots of free time and loads of great company is $170.  Think about bringing a new or old friend along.

If you have questions or some ideas about new activities and would like to help, please contact Linda Perry at 678-699-7436 or lindaamidonperry@gmail.com.

There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex.
