The Second Sunday in Lent
March 8, 2020

"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.
We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters through prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.

We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition, and
reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs,
hurts, joys, and interests."

Shining our Light:
2020 Annual Giving Campaign

Thank you for being grateful, responsible stewards of the gifts we receive from God.  What a blessing and honor to be stewards of what God has given to us!  Thank you for supporting our ministry and mission at Resurrection and allowing Resurrection members to be beacons of light in our parish and out in the community. No matter what amount you pledge to Resurrection, your commitment makes a difference in the ministry and mission we do. As part of your spiritual discipline, we hope you will make sure to joyfully turn in your pledge so we can continue to shine our light in the parish and in our community.

You can pledge by filling out a card found in the narthex, or the easiest and most secure way to offer your pledge is by going to   https://www.resurrectionsautee.com/estimate-of-giving-for-2020.

Thank you for being a blessing!

TONIGHT
On Thursday, March 5, at 5:30 p.m. (before Women's Bible Study), there will be a brief planning meeting at the church for this year's women's retreat.  Your input and ideas are needed as to location, programs, and possible activities.  If you can't make the meeting, send your ideas to any member of the study group.

THANKS!!

An Adaptation of George Herbert's Love (III)
Adaptation and Arrangement by Andy Gilbert

Love bade me welcome: yet my soul drew back,
Guilty of dust and sin.
But quick-eyed Love, observing me grow slack
From my first entrance in,
Drew Nearer to me, sweetly questioning,
If I lacked anything.

A guest, I answered, worthy to be here:
Love said, You shall be he.
I the unkind, ungrateful? Ah my dear,
I cannot look upon thee.
Love took my hand, and smiling did reply,
Who made the eyes but I?

Truth Lord but I have marred them: let my shame
Go where it doth deserve.
And know you not, says Love, who bore the blame?
My dear, then I will serve.

Interlude

Love bade me welcome: yet my soul drew back,
Guilty of dust and sin. again
But quick-eyed Love, observing me grow slack
From this next entrance in,
Drew nearer to me, sweetly questioning,
If I lacked anything.

Discussion:
George Herbert was an early 17th century Welsh born poet and priest of the Church of England and is associated with metaphysical poets. Herbert's The Temple is a poetic and lyrical collection of his personal exploration of one's relationship with God. The book's final lyrical poem, Love III, is the climatic poem in a triptych on the worthiness of us to sit and be a guest at the Lord's table and God's role as host. Herbert was quite bold at the time in showing how God is Love. This adaptation includes an additional verse; a slightly altered repeated ending verse, that reveals man's repeating sin, repentance and return but even more revealing is God's unconditional forever Love.
