All Saints' Sunday
November 4, 2018

"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.
We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters through prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.

We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition, and
reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs,
hurts, joys, and interests."

This Sunday's Anthem:

The song relates to both the  Old and  New Testaments. The verses reflect the  Israelites' escape out of Egypt as found in  Exodus 14. [2] The chorus refers to healing: see  John 5:4, "For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had."

Many Internet sources and popular books claim that songs such as "Wade in the Water" contained explicit instructions to fugitive slaves on how to avoid capture and the route to take to successfully make their way to freedom.

An example of this is cited in the book Pathways to Freedom: Maryland & the Underground Railroad. The book explains how Harriet Tubman used the song "Wade in the Water" to tell escaping slaves to get off the trail and into the water to make sure that the dogs employed by slavers lost their trail.

Communion Hymn:

In Remembrance
(Ragan Courtney and Buryl Red)

In remembrance of Me eat this bread
In remembrance of Me drink this wine
In remembrance of Me pray for the time
When God's own will is done

In remembrance of me heal the sick
In remembrance of me feed the poor
In remembrance of me open the door
And let your brother in, let him in

Take eat and be comforted
Drink and remember too
That this is my body and precious blood
Shed for you, shed for you

In remembrance of me search for truth

In remembrance of me always love
In remembrance of me don't look above
But in your heart, in your heart
Look in your heart for God

Do this in remembrance of Me
Do this in remembrance of Me
In remembrance of Me

This text is built on four familiar words of Christ at the Last Supper, as recorded in Luke 22:19 and 1 Corinthians 11:24-25. Radiating from that corporate memory of the church, additional actions are encouraged in Christ's voice using allusions to other passages of scripture.

Resurrection will again be supporting the annual White County White Christmas Project (aka Angel Tree) this holiday season. B eginning Sunday, 11/18, we will have angels on the tree in the nave for selecting boys and girls of various ages with their gift wishes.

Participating shoppers will have until December 9 to shop for their angel(s).  All bags are due back on that Sunday. We will collect them and take them to the collection point.

Please consider supporting this very special ministry/outreach opportunity again this year.  May the spirit of Christmas be alive in our hearts as we  bring cheer to those less fortunate then ourselves!
