Thirteenth Sunday After Pentecost
August 19, 2018

"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.
We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters through prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.

We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition, and
reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs,
hurts, joys, and interests."

Thanks to Allene Kelley, major landscaping begins around the parish hall!

The filling in and reshaping of the outside of the parish hall is complete. It will be seeded and covered with hay. Work now begins on the new basketball/4 square court in the back.

This Sunday's

Anthem:

I Want Jesus to Walk With Me
African-American Spiritual

Though this spiritual focuses on a plea for Jesus to walk alongside us, there is an element of assurance that His answer is "yes." As the psalmist writes, "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me" (Psalm 23:4, ESV). As this song is sung, think about what it means to constantly have the presence of God, even when no human companionship is available.

Communion Hymn:

Bread of Life
Bernadette Farrell

Refrain:
Bread of life, hope of the world,
Jesus Christ, our brother;
feed us now, give us life,
lead us to one another.
1. As we proclaim your death, as we recall your life,
We remember your promise to return again.

2. The bread we break and share was scattered once as grain:
Just as now it is gathered, make your people one.

3. We eat this living bread, we drink this saving cup:
Sign of hope in our broken world, source of lasting  love.

4. Hold us unity, in love for all to see;
That the world may believe in you, God of all who live.

5. You are the bread of peace, you are the wine of joy,
Broken now for your people, poured in endless love.
New Year Begins in September!

I will be offering a second year beginning in September called ACTS (Adult Christian Theological Study). The group will meet Wednesday evenings at 6:00 for approximately 90 minutes for the school calendar year, taking the same days and weeks off as the school calendar. This group this year will do an in-depth exploration of the New Testament and Theology, coupled with an intimate small group supportive learning environment.

The only costs will be for the text books, which will total less than $40.

I hope that the outcome of this group will be to theologically educate individuals properly who can think theologically about today's challenges of loving God and neighbor.

The only requirements to be part of this group is that you seek Christian maturity, have an open mind for inquisitive learning, an open heart for mutual group peer support, and a willingness to regularly attend the agreed-upon meetings for the school year.

If you are interested in this group, please reply to me, [email protected].

TIME FLIES, and yes . . . it's time again to start thinking about the annual Women's Retreat.

As last year, the retreat will be held at the Bishop's Retreat Center at Camp Mikell, Toccoa, GA.  The cost for great food, great programming, optional crafts, hiking, lots of free time and loads of great company is $170.  Think about bringing a new or old friend along.

If you have questions or some ideas about new activities and would like to help, please contact Linda Perry at 678-699-7436 or [email protected].

The sign-up sheet is in the Narthex.
