Twenty-third Sunday After Pentecost
October 23, 2016

"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.

We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters through prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.

We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition, and
reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs,
hurts, joys, and interests."

In  conjunction with our annual Stewardship Drive, October 30, 2016, has been designated by the Vestry as Ministry Day.  As part of Ministry Day, we will have a Ministry Fair  after both the 8:15 and 10:30 services. There will be refreshments for all and goody bags for the kids.

The purpose of the Ministry is to present parish ministries, programs and services to the members of the parish, to help parishioners understand the impact that their gifts of time, talent and treasure have on the lives of others, and to invite parishioners to volunteer their time and talent.

You don't want to miss this important event in the life of our parish!

Stewardship Prayer

Oh, Lord, giver of life and source of our freedom,
We are reminded by the Psalmist that Yours is "the earth and its fullness;
the world and those who dwell in it."

We know that it is from your hand that we have
received  all we have and are and will be.

Gracious and loving God,
We understand that You call us to be the Stewards of your abundance,
the caretakers of all You have entrusted to us.

Help us always to use Your gifts wisely and teach us to share them generously.  May our faithful stewardship bear witness to the love of Christ in our lives.

We pray with grateful hearts,
in Jesus' name.

Amen

Family Promise Update

Family Promise Hosting Week

Resurrection church will be hosting three families currently in the program. We have 4 adults, 4 children and a 5-month-old baby boy.  As of last Sunday, volunteers have signed up for meals on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Friday night is the only night that is covered by volunteers.  The following is a list of volunteer opportunities still needed:

Sunday, Oct. 23rd - Dinner host & overnight host at Faith Lutheran church.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday - overnight hosts.
Sunday, Oct. 23rd - Day Center, 1 volunteer from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 volunteer  from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 29th - Day Center, 1 volunteer from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 volunteer  from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This is a great opportunity to meet the families and interact with the children. I hope you will consider volunteering. The sign-up sheet is in the narthex.  Don and I will be available after Sunday service to answer any questions.

TOMORROW

This year, Family Promise of White County will participate in Georgia Gives Day. Georgia Gives Day is November 17th and is a statewide initiative to help with donations to non-profits. If you are participating in this statewide event, please consider giving to Family Promise of White County. It is an amazing initiative that we are proud to be a part of.

Thank you for supporting this important ministry.

Consecration Sunday is Coming!
November 6, 2016

Congregations that approach financial stewardship from a biblical perspective do not view the money Christians give to their church merely as a way to pay its bills. Rather, such congregations see financial contributions as a way to help people grow spiritually in their relationship with God by supporting their church's mission and ministry with a percentage of their incomes.

Our congregation's finance committee has selected the New Consecration Sunday Stewardship Program as a way to teach the biblical and spiritual principles of generous giving in our stewardship education emphasis this year.

New Consecration Sunday is based on the biblical philosophy of the need of the  giver to give for his or her own spiritual development, rather than on the need of the church to receive. I nstead of treating people like members of a social club who should pay dues, we will treat people like followers of Jesus  Christ who want to give unselfishly as an act of discipleshi p.   New   Consecration Sunday  encourages people toward proportionate and systematic giving in response to the question, "What percentage of my income is God calling me to give?"

During morning worship on Consecration Sunday, we are asking our attendees and members to make their financial commitments to our churc h's m issionary, benevolent, and educational ministries in this community and around the world.

Every attendee and member who completes an Estimate of Giving Card does so voluntarily by attending morning worship on Consecration Sunday. We urge people to attend who feel strongly opposed to completing a card. The procedure is done in such a way that no one feels personal embarrassment if he or she chooses not to fill out a card.

We will do no home solicitation to ask people to complete cards. During morning worship, our guest leader will conduct a brief period of instruction and inspiration, climaxed by members making their commitments as a confidential act of worship.

We will encourage participation in Consecration Sunday events through the Consecration Sunday team and governing board members. Since we will make no follow-up visits to ask people to complete their cards, we will make every effort to inform, inspire, and commit everyone to attend Consecration Sunday worship.

Thanks in advance for your enthusiastic participation in Consecration Sunday events.

Paul Kimball
Consecration Sunday Chairperson
