Second Sunday of Advent
December 4, 2016

"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.
We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters through prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.

We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition, and
reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs,
hurts, joys, and interests."

Vestry Nominees

Chris Geidel

I am a lifelong Episcopalian. I moved to Sautee Nacoochee in 2000 and joined this family parish with my wife, Mary.  I have served on the Vestry previously and was Junior Warden for a year and Senior Warden for a year during that time.  I was asked to be on this Vestry and decided that since I was already involved with the Building Committee, it would be a good time to be on the Vestry also.  I will be retiring next summer after 40 years as a Consulting Engineer and look forward to having more time to devote to the church, my car hobby and traveling around the country with our camper.

Jan Kay

My name is Jan Kay.  I am 55 years old and a native Georgian.  I was born in Elberton, but spent most of my youth in the Metro Atlanta area.  I have a B.S. degree from Georgia State University and spent 30 years working in law enforcement and community corrections. I retired in August 2014 from the federal government, where I worked as a Deputy Chief for the U.S. Probation Office for Northern Georgia.  I am married to Kelly Smith, my partner of 19 years.  My children consist of two horses, a dog and three cats.  Kelly and I moved to Cleveland in September 2014, although we have owned property here since 2005.  Most of my immediate family resides in Cleveland.  I have several hobbies, including repairing and selling horse tack.  My favorite activities are horseback riding and mounted shooting, camping, fishing, and watching college football.  (GO DAWGS!)

I volunteered to serve on the Vestry because of my love for the church and community.  I especially enjoy working in the community and organizing fund-raising events.  I am a firm believer in following the Lord's command to care for they neighbor.  I have previously volunteered at homeless shelters, meals on wheels, and was co-director of a food bank for several years.  I am ready and eager to serve the church and the Lord in any manner that is needed.

Michael Randall

I am Michael Randall, 63 years old, and married to my beautiful, wonderful wife Hilary.  We have three grown sons:  Hayden, Hudson and Hunter. The two older ones live in Atlanta and the youngest is in Denver, Colorado.  My business profession is architecture.  I am president and part owner of Randall-Paulson Architects, a 35-person multi-discipline design firm, which is located in the Historic Roswell Mill in Roswell, Georgia.

Hilary and I relocated our permanent residence to Cleveland, Georgia, in Lake Laceola a few months ago.  During the previous year or so, when we were building, we attended a number of Episcopal churches in the area.  We quickly determined that Resurrection would become our church home.  This was based on the openness and friendliness of everyone, Scott's inspiring sermons and the fact that the parish has a wide range of young to old parishioners.  We come to Resurrection after attending the Church of the Atonement in Sandy Springs, Georgia, for over 25 years.

I approached Scott about being on the Vestry because I want to become more familiar with everyone we have met thus far and those we have not.  Also, I hope to bring my experience of serving on two Vestries and being Senior Warden twice at our previous church.  I also served as Chairman of the Building Committee for a church expansion project, served on the Finance Committee, as well as being an active participant in lay reading duties and ushering.  I'm hopeful that by bringing another viewpoint from being a new member, it may be beneficial in addressing any issues the church faces.

Thank you to everyone for your support of our 2016 Angel Tree/White Christmas outreach project!  Thanks to your generosity, Resurrection is making the Christmas season a much more happy time for over 40 children in White County.

Please remember to return your gifts to the church by THIS SUNDAY,  December 4,  wrapped in a black trash bag with your angel's number on the outside of the bag.

If you plan to attend, please contact Nancy Phillips ASAP.

Women's Bible Study
First & Third Thursdays, beginning January 5, 2017

"We will begin our new Bible study,
Finding I Am, in January.  We meet at 6:00 on the first and third Thursdays at the church.

Due to construction, we may have to be flexible on our meeting place - this is a good thing! In this study, we will be discussing the 7 "I Am" statements from the Gospel of John.  Our own Tera Johnston will be leading this study.

If you have any questions, please contact Tera, Patty Kidd or me. We will be glad to help.

We hope you all can make it and ... bring a friend!"
