Eighth Sunday After Pentecost
July 30, 2017

"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.
We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters through prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.

We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition, and
reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs,
hurts, joys, and interests."

This Week's Anthem:

The God of Second Chances
by David Haas

David Haas has scored a home run with the text and music of this 6-stanza hymn. It asks God to help us to forgive ourselves and others and to give us the grace and hope to move on when met by life's seemingly insurmountable failures.

1. Come now, O God, of second chances; open our lives to heal.
Remove our hate, and melt our rage. Save us from ourselves.

2. Come now, O God, release our demons; open our eyes to see
the shame within, our guilt and pain. Mend us; make us whole.

3. Come now, O God, and still our anger; open our minds to peace.
Embrace our fear, and hold us close. Calm the storm within.

4. Come now, O God, shake our resentment; open our way to choose
the way of love over the revenge. Show us a new way.

5. Come now, O God, and grant compassion; open our hearts to love.
May we let go of all our hurt. Help us to move on.

6. Come now, O God, of second chances; may we forgive ourselves,
may we become your living sign: children of God's love.

Diocesan Youth Tubing Trip

.
The diocesan youth tubing trip in Helen is August 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Close to a hundred youth will gather to go tubing down the Chattahoochee River in Helen and then head over to Resurrection Episcopal Church in Sautee for lunch, 4-square, and a youth-led Eucharist. The cost is $20 and includes the tubing, lunch, and a tank top. This is a great opportunity to meet friends from across the diocese, and we would love for all our middle and high school youth to go since it is so close by.

Youth, please let Sandy Bergin know if you can go, so she can get a number together and let Easton know.  Also, we are in need of volunteers to pick up the hot dogs and buns, go down the river with the youth, grill the hot dogs, and help serve lunch.

Sautee Camerata Concert
          Sunday, August 6, 7:00 p.m.
The Sautee Camerata, a 13-voice early music ensemble, will present a concert at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection on Sunday evening, August 6, at 7:00 p.m.

Formed in 2012, Sautee Camerata sings  a capella  works from the Renaissance period, though the singers have been known to "stray" into later works.  The group has performed locally in the Sautee and Clarkesville areas, as well as at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta.

Our August performance will feature works by Palestrina, Lassus, Byrd and several other composers of the 16th and 17th centuries.  A reception in the Parish Hall will follow the performance.  We hope you will join us for this delightful program!

World Relief Refugee Resettlement Program

Resurrection has formed a partnership with Nacoochee Presbyterian  Church and Grace-Calvary Episcopal Church  to gather items that are needed  by World Relief to  help settle refugee families in the Metro Atlanta area. During the month of August, the three churches will be soliciting donations for the World Relief Refugee Resettlement Program. A storage space will be rented to store the donated items until they can be transported to the World Relief warehouse. A list of needed items has been posted on the bulletin board in the hallway to the left of the narthex. Please take a copy with you.

After church each Sunday in August, a volunteer will be onsite at each church from 12:00 until 1:30 to accept donations of new and gently used household items and small items of furniture (e.g., lamps, dining room chairs). You can drop off donated items at any of the three churches.

On Saturday August 12th and 26th, between 10:00 and 2:00, volunteers will be at the storage facility (location TBD) to collect larger items. Smaller furniture items and household goods will also be accepted on these dates. If possible, please bring donated furniture on these dates. If you cannot transport the furniture or household items yourself, contact Jan Kay at (770) 371-4570 or jmkay24@gmail.com, and arrangements will be made to have a volunteer pick up the items. We are seeking volunteers for this endeavor, so please let Jan Kay know if you can assist. We will definitely need some help on August 12th and 26th.

Smithgall Woods Animal Shelter needs your newspapers!  Please donate them in the plastic bin located by the front door of the church.
Please consider signing up to be a coffee hour host/hostess on the sign-up sheet in the narthex
Instructions:  Make coffee and lemonade, put goodies on plate and voila!
Coffee hour!

WE HAVE NO ONE SIGNED UP FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST!
Are you ready for Boundless Love?

Crosses Needed
We are collecting crosses to make an arrangement in the parish hall.  The ones in this picture were made by Harold Riley using some of the wood out of Morris Braswell's shop.  If you would like to donate a cross to be used in the arrangement, please bring it to church and put it on the table in the parish hall.  We would like a variety of sizes and an assortment of materials; they do not have to be made of wood.  If you have any questions, please contact Denise Dorsey at 706-969-0514 or
