| NATIONAL DERBY CHAMPIONSHIP - OCTOBER 15, 2017 |
|
|
The AKC has approved the creation of a new organization, the
National Retriever Derby Club.
The purpose of the club is to hold the National Retriever Derby Championship and select a National Derby Champion. The inaugural event will begin Sunday, October 15, 2017 in Sedalia, Missouri.
The format for the event calls for between eight and ten series held over five days of competition.
Unlike other national retriever events that are held in different time zones each year, the National Derby Championship will remain in Missouri for the first few years (at least).
Judges have been selected from each of the three NRDC regions (reflecting 45+ clubs each):
John Goettl (West)
,
Jerry Kamphuis (North)
and
Yvonne Hays (South)
. The Field Trial Chairman is Loren Morehouse.
The club officers are:
- John Russell, President
- John Stracka, Secretary-Treasurer
- Ray Vreeland, 1st Vice President
- Larry Morgan, 2nd Vice President
- Wayne Curtis, PRTA
- Dennis Bath, Sponsor Liaison
To qualify dogs must have five or more Derby points and be under the age of two on the first day of the first series of the event.

| SOMETHING TO REMEMBER |
|
"Some quit due to slow progress. Never grasping the fact that slow progress is progress."
-- Unknown
(Thanks to Evan Graham for the quote.)
"I absolutely think that you should revel in any success you may have, as long as you absolutely unde
rstand that the only person on the face of the planet who really gives 2 cents about how you do or do not do, is you.
Sure, sure, your mother or your friend Sam, but both of them have their own lives and joys and worries, so you do what fulfills you, and makes you happy."
-- Denny Emerson, member USEA Hall of Fame

| BREAKING UP A DOG FIGHT |
|
|
While we love our dogs, they're not always wild about each other. And sometimes that antipathy escalates into a dog fight. If you find yourself in that situation, it's important to first assess what's going on and then use the most appropriate method to break it up.
Methods will vary based on how serious you think the situation is. But the first step is to separate the dogs without getting bitten yourself.
|
| SRS CORRECTION |
|
|
In last week's article about the SRS we misidentified the name of the owner of the dog that won the Miss-Lou event. The correct owner's name is Mark Bauer.
Lee Howard (Mossy Pond Retrievers)
with Princeton's True Grit owned by Mark Bauer,
won the 53-dog SRS Miss-Lou Pro event.
