A Note from Scott and Marsha
November 17, 2022
We are in full holiday mode this week. This doesn't mean we have given up on pumpkin spice everything, because we still have a few more weeks to enjoy all the smells and flavors of fall. We hope you are making your grocery lists, checking Pinterest for new recipes, and wrapping up your holiday weekend plans!
So, last week I mentioned I had orchestrated one of the best pranks ever. It's too long for just one story, so I will let the next two weeks be my gift to you. Who doesn't love a good laugh?

One afternoon, I opened my office window to enjoy the glorious breeze and sunshine. About 15 minutes later, when I came out of my zone, it dawned on me that some sort of Metallica, AC/DC, or hard rock music was blaring from the maintenance garage. I spun around in my chair and, as Hannah, our HR/Executive Admin would say, "The audacity!"

I realized it was Caleb, our mechanic. He was having a party and I wasn't invited. In fact, no one was invited. He was having a party all by himself. One thing you have to remember about Caleb is he's multi-talented. He can fix anything, including airplane engines, and he plays the drums. He loves dogs and I have never seen him not smiling or happy. It's the most endearing thing!

I decided if he can blare his music, so can I. So I opened Spotify and connected it to my Bluetooth speaker. I found classic Mozart, set the speaker pointing out my open window, and turned the volume up as loud as it would go, which was pretty loud. Then... I waited.

Ten minutes later, I walked outside and Caleb made eye contact and I smiled. He said, "I knew there was a disturbance in the Force." Insert my squinty eyes here.

You might wonder what everyone in the office was thinking. I believe they have learned to accept me or ignore me. Either way, I posted this little music battle on my personal Instagram story. Caleb's wife sent me a message and said, "If you really want to throw him for a loop, play 'Kissed by a Rose' by Seal."

Stay tuned for part two. In the meantime, we are prepping for all things red and green. The Garden Center looks truly magical now that the Christmas trees, wreaths, and garlands have arrived. Poinsettias will be here tomorrow, and maybe this year we will have a light dusting of snow! One can dream...

GARDEN CENTER FEATURES
POINSETTIA
Want a pop of color for your Christmas decor? Look no further than the Poinsettia! A classic holiday plant, their bright leaves are perfect for adding a festive feel to your decor. There are a variety of colors, so you can select a plant or two (or four) to match any holiday decor aesthetic.

Let them dry out only slightly before giving them a drink; they don't want to be sopping wet or bone dry. If they are too dry, they will wilt. During winter, make sure they come indoors and are placed in bright, indirect light away from heating vents, fireplaces, or any other intense heat sources.
CHRISTMAS ANIMAL POTTERY

If you're the type of person who decorates every inch of your home for the holidays, you definitely need to decorate your houseplants, too! With our new Christmas Animal Pottery arrivals, you can drop your houseplants into these adorable pots. We have cats, dogs, and polar bears and they are all ready to celebrate the holidays with you!
AMERICAN WITCH-HAZEL

We have another native plant to share with you! American Witch-Hazel is a small tree or large shrub. It blooms in the early winter, offering a pop of color and sweet fragrance while other plants are settling in for a winter nap. The fringe-like yellow blooms attract all sorts of pollinators. It draws interest in autumn as well, when the broad leaves turn vibrantly gold.

Ideal for spots with full to partial sun with rich and moist soil. Make sure to check on your plant periodically during winter; rabbits and deer might stop by and view it as a snack.

Tip of the Week: OH CHRISTMAS TREE
Is this your first year with a fresh, live tree for Christmas? Caring for live trees may seem intimidating but we promise it's not! Make sure you read this blog post before you shop this weekend. The best way to prepare your space for a live tree is to measure before you bring a tree home.
