Return to Campus
Orientation, FAQs, and Update l 10.16.20
Dear Carondelet Families,

It is with both excitement and immense gratitude for our two-school community that we write to share that on Tuesday, October 13, Contra Costa County met the benchmark for schools to be released to return for in-person instruction following county and state guidelines. We are also delighted to report that the county numbers continue to improve, which only renews our commitment to follow all safety procedures and protocols to ensure that we can continue to come together as a school community in person.

Accordingly, both Carondelet and De La Salle are moving forward with the detailed schedule we sent in our letter to families last Thursday, October 8.

Next week (Oct. 19-23) will be primarily asynchronous instruction, allowing teachers to prepare to move to our hybrid learning model and will allow us to safely orient all of our students returning to campus. All students must check Schoology for specific directions from their teachers.

Return to Campus Orientations
All students returning to campus must attend a mandatory Orientation next week. The goal of this on-campus session is to familiarize students with our campus modifications and our new safety protocols. Students will be in small groups and will be reporting to various areas of campus.

Complete details, group assignments, and locations will be emailed to students on Tuesday.

Thursday, Oct. 22
Sophomores - Arrive 8:30-8:50 AM, Orientation concludes at 10:00 AM
Seniors - Arrive 12:00-12:20 PM, Orientation concludes at 1:30 PM

Friday, Oct. 23
Juniors - Arrive 8:30-8:50 AM, Orientation concludes at 10:00 AM
Frosh - Arrive 12:30-12:50 PM, Orientation concludes at 2:20 PM

All students must complete the CHS Prescreen app questions and display their green CLEAR screen. Please complete this process before leaving home. We will check the CHS Prescreen app upon arrival to campus. View full CHS Prescreen app details and tutorial video and direct any questions about the app to Caitlin Main, Dean of Students.

For families who have children on both campuses, please note that Carondelet and De La Salle have different times and schedules for orientations, and we want to make sure that families can plan accordingly.

Family To-Dos Before Orientation
Please make sure you confirm your child’s appropriate hybrid learning group according to the email you received on Wednesday, October 14.

All students must download the CHS Prescreen App. All students are required to complete the app before they leave home every day, including for Orientation, and must show their green CLEAR screen to be allowed on campus. It has been pushed to all student iPads and students have the option of downloading it to their phones from their app store.

FAQs
We know you may have many questions about returning to campus. We're happy to answer the questions we hear most frequently. Please review these common questions and our responses, at our COVID-19 FAQs webpage.

Upcoming Communications
Next week, we'll send all families a communication including:
  • A Return to Campus presentation that addresses safety protocols and procedures and teaching and learning guidelines
  • Our Family/School COVID Pledge

COVID-19 Testing
We hope that students and employees have signed up for the free, on-campus testing available next week. If you have an appointment, be sure to complete and bring the required paperwork, which is available on our On-campus Testing webpage. We hope to be able to offer additional on-campus testing in the future and will announce any added dates in the Sunday e-newsletter.

We are excited to welcome students back on campus for academic instruction starting October 26 and 27 (A-K) and October 29 and 30 (L-Z).

Though we are back in classrooms in our hybrid learning model, there will be some teachers who will continue to teach remotely in order to accommodate for COVID concerns. Students will still meet in classroom space and a substitute will be in place to ensure that the in-person classroom environment is maintained and there will be coverage for all classes.

We ask that you and your family continue to practice responsible mask wearing and social distancing so we can keep our campus open. If you haven't already done so, please review the Return to Campus Guidelines. Thank you for your partnership in working towards creating a safe, healthy environment for our students to grow and thrive with heart, faith, courage, and excellence.

Blessings for safety and well-being for you and your family,
Kevin Cushing
