J
une and July were spent becoming familiar with county, state, and federal guidelines and participating in professional development to ensure a safe reopening for our students and employees. Through training, a reopening plan for Rohan Woods School was constructed to continue the educational excellence our students deserve. Our plan is based on current health data and guidelines and may change as new information and data surfaces.
Rohan Woods is dedicated to opening school following these guiding principles:
- The health and safety of the students and employees are at the crux of all decisions, therefore current health information will drive all decision making.
- Campus instruction is paramount in facilitating social and emotional growth in children.
- The ideal teaching and learning environment is one in which students and teachers can interact face-to-face, building a sense of trust within our community.
- Providing in-person instruction is a collaborative effort between the school and families.

Arrival and Dismissal
A staggered drop off and dismissal schedule, with multiple points of entry, has been created utilizing two 15-minute intervals – 7:45 and 8:00am – as well as 3:00 and 3:15pm to ensure cohorts do not cross paths entering or leaving the building decreasing potential spread of COVID-19.
Before and Aftercare
We have a number of families who are dual working. Before care will maintain the cohort model utilized during the school day. It will be offered beginning at 7:15am each day for no fee. Planning continues for aftercare and is based on the ability to staff the program. Parents will be required to register for specific days and pick up times for aftercare/homework club prior to the start of each month. Advance payment of $50.00 per child will be expected when registering and will apply to aftercare fees. Parents will be invoiced if aftercare expenses exceed $50.00.

Professional Development
Faculty and staff have taken part in multiple professional development opportunities this summer to prepare for fall instruction. The Independent Schools of St. Louis (ISSL), the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and educational organizations and individuals offered professional development in preparing to reopen school, academic instructional, virtual learning strategies, and Google Classroom.
Restrooms
Each cohort will have assigned restroom facilities to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. All restrooms will be deep cleaned daily.
Communication
Google Classroom will be the main vehicle of communication with families. Each core class will have a dedicated Google Classroom page that incorporates specialty classes and will host information regarding lunch menus, calendars, conference schedules, forms, and announcements. Bloomz will no longer be used by the school.
Classroom Ventilation
The ventilation system in our facility is evaluated on a quarterly basis and includes the installation of new air filters. To increase the circulation of outdoor air in the classrooms, windows and doors will be left open and ceiling fans will be in use.
LUNCH
Food Service Consultants will continue to provide lunch for our children and employees. Students will eat in their classrooms daily being served one of the following choices: hot entrée, sandwiches (PBJ, cheese, turkey, turkey and cheese, ham, and ham and cheese), soy nuggets or a chicken breast – all served with sides. The school will no longer offer a salad or deli bar. Students may not bring their lunches unless there is a medical reason that is approved by the Head of School

CONNECTING AS A COMMUNITY
COHORT CONNECTIONS
Due to COVID-19, large school community gatherings have been canceled until further notice. Instead of having the all school picnic at the start of school, cohort groups will be invited to play on the playground, with their teachers present, on a specific day and time. While we invite parents to be on campus wearing masks and using physical distancing strategies to connect, parents are asked not to join the children on the playground. Please watch for information regarding Back-to-School Meet & Greets scheduled between August 13th and 17th.

PRECAUTIONS FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY
- To keep our community safe, all families are expected to follow federal, state, and local health department guidelines, regarding social distancing and other measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
- Families need to proactively protect themselves from infection and follow school guidelines to protect the children and employees.
- Students in Third – Sixth Grade will be required to wear masks at school. Masks do not need to be worn in the classroom where there is 6 ft between students and/or the teacher. For children in Pre-Kindergarten – Second Grade, masks are optional. Please teach your child how to properly use, wear, and remove a face mask. Ensure that your child’s face mask is cleaned regularly.
- Practice hand washing techniques now and discuss the frequency at which it should be done.
- Please avoid unnecessary travel.
- If your child presents with a temperature of 100.0 F or feels ill, please do not send them to school. If a temperature is noted at school, your child will be sent home.
- Parents must complete and submit all required student medical forms prior to the first day of school – this includes documentation of current childhood immunizations.
- Limit the number of personal items your child brings to school decreasing the opportunities for sharing food, supplies, or other items.
A health screening and temperature check will be administered daily to all students, employees, and visitors of the school. The confidential information is stored to serve as a log of the daily campus population. These two means of monitoring health are mandated as a condition of opening the school campus. The link for the electronic health screening can be found on each Google Classroom page.
The following symptoms will be monitored daily:
- Feel like you have had a fever
- Taken a fever reducer within the last six hours
- Had trouble breathing
- Experienced a new loss of sense of taste and/or smell
- Had new or worsening body aches, chills, or nausea
- Experienced a sore throat or runny nose that is different from seasonal allergies
- Been in contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19
- Traveled outside of Missouri within the last 24 hours
Enhanced Health and
Safety Measures
While physical distancing guidelines of 6 feet and hand washing will be incorporated into our daily lives, please be mindful that this does not come naturally to small children. Although the school will do its very best to mitigate contact – the students will not always abide by the guidelines.
- Masks, gloves, and cleaning supplies can be found in every classroom.
- All personnel will be trained in daily cleaning strategies and have cleaning supplies readily available.
- The building will be restricted to students and employees only. Parents and vendors will be allowed in the offices but not in other parts of the building.
- Flu shots are highly recommended for students, faculty, and staff to limit the number of people with COVID-19 like symptoms.
