Reflections
Richard Allen Farmer is a graduate of Nyack College in Nyack, N.Y., where he received his Bachelor of Music degree, and Princeton Theological Seminary where he earned a Master of Divinity degree. In 2020, he earned the Doctor of Ministry degree at Emory University.
An accomplished pastor and college chaplain, he accepted a call in December 2013 to be the Senior Pastor of Crossroads Presbyterian Church of Stone Mountain, Georgia. During his time at Crossroads, Rev. Dr. Farmer served valiantly with the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta in many capacities including as Chair of the Board for New Church Development Commission, amazing team member and musician for the Pastor2Pastor team, Worship and Presbytery Meeting Team as well as a member of the African American Clergy Group.
Previously, he served as Senior Pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Pittsburgh (1980-88) and as Dean of the Chapel at both Gordon College and Taylor University.
When he arrived, he promised Crossroads ten years of service so that he could honor his wife's desire to return to Texas to live close to their son, Timothy. In January, 2024, Rev. Dr. Farmer stayed true to his commitment to return home with his wife, Rosemary, for retirement and to travel the US in their RV.
Away from the pulpit and the keyboard, he was an instrument-rated pilot, certified scuba diver, motorcyclist, Segway rider, and vintage automobile enthusiast. He also was a devoted animal lover, having owned six monkeys, a chimpanzee, a ferret, and a colony of 26 hamsters.
Committed to being a citizen of the world, Pastor Farmer has spoken, lectured, or performed concerts in Great Britain, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Chile, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Canada, the Philippines and most states of the United States.
Rev. Dr. Richard Allen Farmer and his wife, Rosemary, are the very proud parents of an adult son, Timothy. Rev. Dr. Farmer's twin sister and mother live in Atlanta.
