Karl’s Tweet:
Lion dance. Fire crackers. Red envelopes. The Chinese New Year is near. This coming Sunday, we will have a special luncheon after worship to welcome the Year of the Pig. Pigs are arguably one of the smartest animals. Let us wise up for the occasion.
The Chinese New Year is also called the Spring Festival. It is time for a new beginning. If you made New Year resolutions last month and failed to follow through, this is your second chance. If you have career goals or other hopes and dreams but have not done anything about it, it is time to start your engine.
An English idiom says, “Well begun, half done
好的開始就是成功的一半
or
慎始成終
.” A Chinese idiom also states, “
一年之計在於春 一日之計在於晨
Plan for the year in Spring and day in morning.” On the other hand, a Cantonese saying describes the difficulty of initiation, “
萬事起頭難
To begin is the hardest in all tasks.” Another saying points out the danger of failing to start on time,
“
落筆打三更
Failing to begin till midnight is destined to fail”
Do you want to learn
“How to Begin?”
Read John 2: 1-11 and worship with us this Sunday.
During the Chinese New Year celebration, people like to hang couplets
對聯
by the two sides of the door. I have composed three sets to help you remember the lesson of the sermon. Come find out.

A Celebration of Life Service was held last Saturday, January 26, 2019, here at Chinese Community Church for former CCC pastor and EWCO founder,
Rev Harold Jow.
May 26, 1919-January 13, 2019.
We can imagine Jesus saying to Rev. Jow with outstretched arms,
"...Well done, good and faithful servant!..."
-from Matthew 25:21
"How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!"
- Romans 10:15b
Rev. Jow's legacy lives on in the seeds planted through EWCO and in all of you. One of his favorite songs,
"Battle Hymn of the Republic"
was sung at his service. It expresses Rev. Jow's heart and a charge to all of us. Verse 5:
"We can almost hear the trumpet sound, the Lord's return is near; There are still so many people lost, His message they must hear; Father, give us one more moment, one more day, just one more year- With God we're marching on."
Many thanks to David Seid, the Tech Team, the Kitchen Ministry, the Ladies' Guild, the Rental Coordinator, the Music Director, the EWCO Team, several ministers (Rev. Steven Siu, Rev. Dr. Karl Fung, Rev. Frank Wang, Rev. Stevenson Leong), the speakers, and all the many other helpers and volunteers for pitching in and making Rev. Harold Jow's Celebration of Life Service so special. We couldn't have done it without all of you!
