Reflections Through HeART:

Featuring D'LO !

Tasveer proudly brings to stage D’LO: the queer/transgender Tamil-Sri Lankan-American artist known for known for unapologetically challenging Hollywood to tell trans stories.


The Community Open Mic will also feature South Asian American singer Ashavari along with a lineup of South Asian artists and storytellers from the Greater Seattle community. Reflections through HeART – a CommUNITY Open Mic Event provides an in-person platform along with training and resources to support South Asian artists presenting prose, poetry, comedy, music, performance art, improv or other forms of artistic expression. Free Storytelling Workshop with Kent Whipple

Calling South Asian Storytellers! Sign-up for Tasveer’s 1st ever in-person Community Open Mic and free storytelling workshop by Unexpected Productions and EXPRESS YOURSELF!


In the storytelling workshop, you will learn the power of personal narrative and the art and power of vulnerability, and how to share your story. In four hours, we will play storytelling games, discuss story structure, and learn how to overcome stage fright to create a fun story. This workshop provides a safe space and explores the art of oral storytelling including story creation, enhancement, and presentation. Learn simple practical story guidelines and step-by-step tools, to create incredible honest stories from your life experience.


Kent Whipple is the founder of the storytelling program at the Unexpected Productions Improv School, where he teaches intro and advanced classes, and is the narrative coach for the improv ensemble. He also hosts Inside Story, a storytelling show at Unexpected Productions. He is a co-producer for The Story Collider – Seattle. In March of 2022, he was featured on the PBS show, Stories from the Stage, which illustrates the power of real stories told by masterful storytellers and is produced by WORLD Channel in collaboration with GBH.

Tasveer Filmmaker Spotlight: Kalyan Sura

The Tasveer Filmmaker Spotlight, hosted by Brown Girl Joy Productions co-founders Jaspreet and Aman, is a conversation with filmmakers who are part of the Tasveer community.


The second featured filmmaker was Kalyan Sura, he is a virtuoso storyteller from India who built his reputation rendering creative and technical services to numerous productions ranging from low-budget indie projects to multi-million-dollar Hollywood blockbusters. Kalyan was recently recognized as one of 30 inspiring leaders under 30 years of age by his alma mater. He is a member of the prestigious Visual Effects Society, and Screen Writer’s Association of India.

We will host a live pitching session to determine the award winners in each category. The top 3 finalists will be invited from each category to pitch their short film, LGBTQ+ films, or their documentary treatment.
