Conversations across time
That's the theme of "The Black Matter is Life," the first in a series of poetry readings, held by Black Heritage Trail NH. Host UNH English professor Dennis Britton leads a discussion of works by Nikki Giovanni, Rudy Francisco, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Maya Angelou with featured poet Theo Wilson. "Poetry allows us to have conversations across time," says Britton. "It's the ways we project onto these poems....We live in the history of race. It becomes difficult not to read Black poetry through that history."

A "Magi"-cal Story
A young but poor married couple sacrifice what they most love to show their devotion at Christmas. It's the "The Gift of the Magi" by short story wizard O. Henry. What a twist ending! Hear George Spencer, JAM's programming director, read the tale with visuals by senior producer Chico Eastridge. (The dreamy images are White River ice floes.)

Hartland Holiday Variety Show
Ho, ho, ho! The whole town came out for the show featuring Chiho Kaneko singing from Handel's "Messiah," the Hartland Holiday Choir leading the audience in "Silent Night," and guitarist Michael Wilson teaming up with poet Rob Foote. The Hartland Holiday Players brought down the house with their sketch, "The Holiday Hope Line." And singer Emma Caffrey, accompanied by pianist Pierre Fournier, awed the audience.

my_movie.mp4 video art installation
Local artist Charlie Rose presents a debut media arts installation “My_movie.mp4,” a video art experience using internet videos from 2006-2013 which have been corrupted and manipulated to create visual abnormalities. The exhibit explores exposure to the internet as a child. This challenging, often abstract digital collage was created through deleting I-frames and hex bending. This process breaks the videos – like the virtual version of hitting a DVD player with a hammer, creating a pixelated Rorschach test which invites its viewers to create meaning out of contextless image.
