Revere Blog: Migration is Inevitable. Here's How We Would Do It.
It's  hard to believe that re mote I/O has been around for over thirty years. While its served you well, you're finding out that it is unable to perform to today's control requirements and standards.  Sooner or later you're going to have to upgrade your legacy DH+ & Remote I/O systems.

I think it's safe to say that Drives and PanelViews are the pulse of your plant. Drives help ensure that processes; such as bottling, filling, cartoning, and palletizing, are running efficiently and smoothly.  PanelViews give you the critical insight into your control system.  Should either one of these fail, your entire control system could be affected.  Replacements for legacy Remote I/O drives and PanelViews are in short supply, and are quickly becoming unavailable. What should you do?

Rockwell Automation Blog:  What Will Your Smart Factory Look Like in 20 Years?

If you time-traveled 20 years into the future, would you even recognize your operations?
It's a question I got to thinking about as I reflect on the initial release of our Logix control platform. When Logix was first released, it introduced new techniques and methods to address long-standing challenges.

Not only did it have more memory and faster performance than its predecessor, it also allowed users to converge different production disciplines - like discrete, motion, process and safety - into an integrated plant-wide architecture
.
Looking ahead to the next 20 years, the Logix platform and other digital technologies offer even more transformative potential - to entirely change how we design, manage and staff operations.

But that potential still eludes many in the industrial world because concepts like Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing are too "blue sky" and difficult to translate into real-world improvements.

While a  PLC is tangible and its performance is measurable, something like Industry 4.0 is abstract and bound only by the limits of our imagination.

With this in mind, let's look at three concrete, achievable examples of how operations will change in a smart factory within 20 years.

Rockwell Automation CompactLogix 5380 Controllers

Rockwell Automation's  CompactLogix® 5380 Controllers provide increased performance, capacity, productivity, and security to help meet the growing demands of smart machines and equipment for manufacturing.

All CompactLogix 5380 controllers use a common design environment, Studio 5000®, as the standard framework. This environment optimizes productivity, reduces time to commission, and manages Integrated Motion over EtherNet/IP for high-speed motion applications and SIL2/PLd safety solutions.

These controllers are ideal for applications requiring high-performance communications, I/O, and motion control for up to 32 axes.

  • Standard industrial communication protocols and software-configured move profiles for fast and easy changeovers

Eaton Bussmann: Introduction to Fuseology

Earlier this year, Busmann released their Fuseology technical handbook that is based on the 2017 NEC® and provides overcurrent protection fundamentals. They are now developing 15 video training modules with Nick Offerman, FAE manager, based on this handbook. Several modules will be released each month.  Check out the informational video below and go to Eaton Bussmann's website to view the On-Demand videos.

Eaton Crouse Hinds: CoSPEC 3D Drawing and Design

Crouse Hinds recently rolled out their CoSPEC online 3D Drawing Catalog, which offers the ability to select and view Eaton's Crouse-Hinds series products in 2D and 3D.  Then, with a couple of clicks, you can download design content in one of nearly 100 different CAD, BIM, PDMS and graphics formats.  File format outputs are native to the chosen software, which eliminates translation errors and speeds the integration of the content into your project.
With CoSPEC, you can:
  • Configure products to exact base catalog number/SKU.
  • View your chosen product in 2D or 3D.
  • Download 2D drawings or 3D models for integration into your design packages.
