As a consistently pro-Life American, I have long called for overturning Roe v. Wade, an egregious case of the judiciary making laws rather than interpreting the laws written by our democratically elected Representatives. Overturning Roe would return abortion issues to our democratic process and restore the genius of the framework outlined in our Constitution, not to mention, it would save countless babies’ lives.
This week, I joined many of my colleagues in sending a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray to launch a criminal investigation into the Supreme Court decision leak. This disgraceful and possibly illegal breach of Supreme Court secrecy is a sad sign of the scorched-earth campaign by radical Leftists to undermine our Constitution and its carefully crafted separation of powers.
This leak erodes the integrity of our institutions and sets the Justices up to be harassed for their apparent decision and influenced to make a different one. The Supreme Court is part of our system of government, but it does not run the country like the Executive and Legislative Branches. Its job is to interpret and apply the law to settle legal disputes. When the law it is interpreting is the Constitution, the Court must determine its original public meaning and apply it to the facts of a case without bias. All Americans must reject this frontal assault on our Constitution and bring those responsible to justice.
Also this week, I introduced a House Resolution that would recognize May 1st-7th as National Correctional Officers week. Correctional Officers are vital in providing a safe and secure environment for those carrying out a prison sentence, the correction of criminal behavior, and supporting programs for treatment and education. Our nation’s correctional officers are a crucial part of law enforcement and keeping folks safe. At a time where crime is rising and the defund the police movement is mobilized, I stand in support of all officers so they can properly enforce our laws and work to rehabilitate inmates. This week and every week, we honor their service to our communities. Specifically, I want to think the officers at the Federal Correctional Institution in Forrest City for working hard to make the First District a safer place!
