April 6, 2021

As we approach April 15, we wanted to send out a friendly reminder of the revised filing and payment dates for individual taxpayers. In Notice 2021-21, the IRS automatically extended the filing and payment date for 2020 federal individual income tax returns from April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021. The IRS Notice also automatically postpones until May 17, 2021, the deadline for making 2020 contributions to: Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA's and Roth IRA's), Health Savings Accounts (HSA's), Archer Medical Savings Accounts (Archer MSA's), and Coverdell Education Savings Accounts (Coverdell ESA's). In addition, Indiana has followed the IRS and extended the filing and payment date for 2020 Indiana individual income tax returns to May 17, 2021.
PLEASE NOTE: The IRS and Indiana have both stated that this relief does not apply to individual or non-individual taxpayers who are filing forms outside of the Form 1040 / Form IT-40 series. In addition, both the IRS and Indiana have reiterated that there is no extension for the payment of estimated 2021 income taxes, which are still due April 15, 2021. Therefore, please ensure that any first quarter 2021 estimated income tax payment requirements are promptly paid by the required due date.
