Hartford Public Library announces Kellie Willis of St. Louis, MO as the 2020 recipient of the Caroline M. Hewins Scholarship, awarded annually to a promising library school student who intends to become a children’s librarian.


Kellie works for the St. Louis County Library system as a Youth Services Specialist and is a member of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association.

Hartford Public Library is offering the opportunity for people to celebrate Native American customs and culture.

The event, called “Revisiting Thanksgiving, and Celebrating the Green Corn Festival” will take place Monday, November 23, from 6:00 pm – 7:15 pm via Facebook Live.

Hear Indigenous perspectives on Thanksgiving, and learn about historically practiced and current day Indigenous harvest celebrations, including the Green Corn Festival.

Jean Kwok uses a wide variety of tone - from emotional family drama to light coming of age - to create immersive literacy worlds.

Both New York Times bestselling writers will be featured at this year's Beyond Words, taking place on HPL's YouTube page December 3 from 7 to 7:30 pm.

Happy Diwali! This week our Indian families celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights, a joyful holiday that took place from Nov. 14 through Nov. 18. HPL’s children’s department held a virtual celebration this week. In honor of the event, HPL children’s librarian Lina Osho-Williams put together a video of library families creating rangoli art, an important part of the festivities.
