The New York Times' “The State of the Virus” for March 29 offers the following:

Cases have started rising again. The country is averaging more than 63,000 new cases a day, up about 15 percent from two weeks ago but still far below the levels seen in December and January.
The pace of vaccination continues to increase. About 2.7 million people are receiving shots every day. States are moving quickly to expand eligibility.
New Jersey and New York continue to lead the country in recent cases per capita. Infection numbers are especially high around New York City.
Cases, deaths and hospitalizations are rising rapidly in Michigan. More than 4,600 cases are being reported there on an average day. The Jackson and Flint metro areas have two of the country’s highest rates of recent cases.
Nationally, deaths continue to decline. About 1,000 deaths are being announced most days, down from more than 3,000 a day in January.
The outlook in much of the West and South remains quite encouraging. In Nevada, about 315 coronavirus patients are hospitalized, compared to more than 2,000 at the state’s December peak.

On March 30, in the U.S. there were 62,549 new cases (approximately 16 percent more than reported nine days ago) with a total of 31,097,154 cases; on March 30 there were 873 new deaths (an approximate 31 percent decrease in deaths over data reported nine days ago) and the U.S. death total has reached 564,138.

Comparative Covid-19 data for March 30, 2021:

The United Kingdom had 4,040 new cases (a 30 percent decrease in new cases since our reporting nine days ago) and 4,341,736 total cases. There were 56 new deaths (approximately 50 percent fewer deaths), increasing the UK’s Covid death total to 126,670. The UK’s vaccine success in combination with other measures now puts the U.K. sixth (behind the U.S., India, Brazil, France, and Russia ) on the worldwide total cases list.

In Italy on March 30, there were 16,071 new cases and on that day Italy had 529 new deaths (an approximate 40 percent decrease in new cases and a 2 percent increase in deaths over nine days ago); there are to date 3,561,012 total cases and 108,879 total Covid-19 deaths .

In France on March 30, there were 30,703 new cases, (a 2 percent increase over nine days ago) with a total of 4,585,395 cases. There were 348 new deaths (10 more deaths than nine days ago) with a total of 95,337 Covid-19 deaths in France.

In Germany on March 30, there were 13,110 new cases; there have been 2,594,675 total cases. There were 316 new deaths (74,431 total Covid-19 deaths in Germany). In comparison to data reported nine days ago, Germany had a 41 percent increase in new cases and a 26 percent decrease in new deaths.

Canada, on March 30 moved down from 22nd to 23rd on the worldwide total cases list, yet due to spotty vaccine rollout efforts is showing significant increase in new cases. Canada had 2,821 new cases on March 30 (a 57 percent increase over nine days ago); 976,598 total cases. Canada had 26 new deaths, two more new deaths than nine days ago’s reporting for a total of 22,926 deaths.

We assume that our readers watch some TV coverage and read/listen to many news sources, therefore most of us have heard CDC Director Rochelle Walensky saying on Monday, “We have so much to look forward to … But right now I’m scared.” The story to explain Dr. Walensky's concerns is “U.S. cases of Covid-19 are rising again, sparking fears of a fourth major surge” found in BuzzFeed news. Zeynup Tufekci, the UNC’s great sociologist and The Atlantic’s Covid analyst reappears in “The fourth surge is upon us. This time, it’s different.” She states, “A deadlier and more transmissible variant has taken root, but now we have the tools to stop it if we want;” we state that you should read this and warn all those (particularly the 18 to 30 year olds) you know of the dangers they face.

Scientific American hosts Peter J. Hotez, M.D., Ph.D., a professor of pediatrics and molecular virology at Baylor College of Medicine, where he co-heads the Texas Children's Center for Vaccine Development. Dr. Hotez who we often see on TV offers us a must read: “The anti-science movement is escalating, going global and killing thousands.”

Our last recommendation is to turn to CNN for this past Sunday’s “10 things the 'pandemic doctors' revealed to Dr. Sanjay Gupta about their time fighting Covid-19.” Our link gets you the written summary and clips, yet we very much encourage you to to watch the whole show and its many self-critical assessments by each doctor, which includes the often quoted in print and on screens: “Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House's coronavirus response coordinator under Trump, said the majority of those deaths could have been prevented. ‘I look at it this way – the first time we have an excuse. There were about 100,000 deaths that came from that original surge,’ Birx said. ‘All of the rest of them, in my mind, could have been mitigated or decreased substantially.’ ... The U.S. has now seen more than 548,000 Covid-19 deaths.”
