Sat 3rd September 11am and 2pm
Full details/booking HERE
Private walks for staff/community groups on request
'A truly inspiring day, filled with information I may have NEVER been aware of, if it was not for attending this walk. The friendly intellectually amazing tour guide relayed facts that I would have had to research for months to be aware of. I would URGE any and everyone, of all ages to attend - a great, fun, educational day out.' Isschara Maxine, London
Thank you for organizing a wonderful walking tour for my students. You are incredibly knowledgeable, and it was such a joy to hear your take on things. The students loved this field trip. You did an excellent job relating the history, culture, and social contributions of Black and Afro-Caribbean people in a fun and lively way while still emphasizing the seriousness and importance of this often overlooked aspect of British life. I could not have asked for a better supplement to my Sociology course on race, identity, and culture. I really appreciate you helping make the class so special and look forward to arranging another. William Force Assistant Professor of Sociology, Western New England University

Exodus Gods and Kings Movie Breakdown
Karibu Education Centre, Brixton
Friday 16 and 23 September 6.30-9.30pm
Book HERE or pay on the door
Many people are upset by the all white casting of films set in ancient Africa. They are less able to explain the extensive and insidious mis-representation of African culture; history, architecture and art which occur in every frame of those movies. This is just as damaging but often goes unnoticed. It affects people who have'nt even seen the movie due to the massive promotional advertising that comes with such films, the brainwashing continues indirectly and subconsciously. In this double breakdown spread over two dates we will cover:
- Scene by scene comparisons of Gods and Kings and actual African history with dates and comparative European history
- The actual African identity of Gods and Pharoahs in the film
- The people behind this film, similar films and reasons for the whitewash
- 12 Hollywood movies where the stars were supposed to have been Black but were changed to white
- Did slavery build the pyramids, who were the Hebrews ?
- Racist Hollywood Studio conspiracies with proof
- The Indian who became white to portray an African
- 10 Hollywood historical movies you thought were true but were total lies
- How we can use such films to our advantage:
- Where and how to get accurate information on African history
We will also be eviscerating the more recent movie, Gods of Egypt, A movie so racist that the directors and studio apologised for it when it came out ! This presentation will be jointly delivered by Brother Andrew Muhammad and BHW
This event will start at 6.30pm. Bring pen and pad and be on time! £8.00 entry book early HERE

'I have been meaning to write you all week to thank you for the informative and thought-provoking session you held for ACD students last week. It was tremendous. What was really satisfying is that you held their attention throughout the 3 hour session even in the not ideal situation of being cramped into the foyer space due to the projector being taken by another organisation. The Black Image
Wednesday 21st September 6.30-9pm
UCL, Sir Ambrose Fleming Lecture Theatre
Book your free tickets HERE. Donations accepted
A very revealing presentation and film which shows how the image of African people has been deliberately altered by Europeans to show negativity. In the 15th century African people were portrayed in European art as noble, sophisticated and intelligent. With the rise of Empire these images were thrown out and replaced with demeaning stereotypes which still inform public opinion via children’s books and Hollywood movies.. Book your free tickets HERE

1919 Race Riots and the Black British Intelligentsia
Thursday 22nd September 6.30-9pm
UCL, Sir Ambrose Fleming Lecture Theatre
Book your free tickets HERE. Donations accepted
In 1919 after African/Caribbean people had loyally fought for Britain in World War 1 they were viciously attacked by racist whites, denied jobs and told to 'go home'. However in Liverpool, London and Cardiff the Black community fought back by any means necessary. The resistance was co-ordinated between Black soldiers and militant activists who lobbied, protested, fundraised, punched, kicked and shot their way to self-determination. This presentation will cover:
- What were Black people doing here in the early 1900's ?
- Unsung Black British Civil rights leaders of 1919
- The Black 'James Bond' who raised funds in the Caribbean to fund the revolution
- Black Butetown: where (and why) white people feared to tread
- British West Indian soldiers, how they defended their communities
- Suppressing the facts, why this information is not better known
About the Speaker: Steve Martin has spent the last seven years trawling through archives at the National Maritime Museum and the Black Cultural Archives. He has uncovered some amazing stories

Olympic Pride, American Prejudice . Film premiere
Saturday 24th September 2-5pm @BFISouthbank
Narrated by Blair Underwood
This film explores the experiences of 18 African-American Olympians who defied Jim Crow and Adolf Hitler to win hearts and medals at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. Set against the strained and turbulent atmosphere of a racially divided America, which was torn between boycotting Hitler’s Olympics or participating in the Third Reich’s grandest affair, the film follows 16 men and two women before, during and after their heroic turn at the Summer Olympic Games in Berlin. They represented a country that considered them second class citizens and competed in a country that rolled out the red carpet in spite of an undercurrent of Aryan superiority and anti-Semitism.
They were world heroes yet returned home to a short-lived glory. This story is complicated. This story is triumphant but unheralded. This story is a vital part of history and is as relevant today as it was almost 80 years ago.
Since the 1936 Olympics was a well-documented event, this film will utilize the wealth of newsreel material, newspaper articles, photographs, personal interviews and never-before-seen footage as well as resources from the personal archival collections of Olympians and organizations in both the U.S. and Germany.
