Last night I watched It’s a Wonderful Life, and it’s funny how differently a movie hits over time. When I first saw Jimmy Stewart’s classic at ten, I thought it was painfully boring and couldn’t understand why my parents cried or insisted on watching it every Christmas Eve. Now I think it’s one of the best movies ever made, because in some way we all can relate to George Bailey—especially those of us who like to overly plan our lives (me🙋‍♀️).

As George says, “I know what I’m gonna do tomorrow, and the next day, and the next year, and the year after that.” It's frustrating to watch at some parts because nothing goes according to plan, but that's also the most beautiful part of it; learning to find the joy in life's unpredictability.

This year, my New Year’s resolutions are to be as compassionate as George Bailey and to learn to embrace life’s detours.
