| Thank you all so very much for helping to raise $2,500 for the Lower Merion Township Scholarship Fund last month, it was just the best way to celebrate 20 years of Sarah Bakes! Whatever is happening out there in the big world, we can -- and we have -- made a difference right here at home. The annual LMTSF New Recipient Reception was held a few days after the Market, and it was a wonderful evening filled with gratitude and promise. Hats off to the Class of 2026!
As the graduates head off to their new adventures, I will have some of my own -- in the kitchen! I am going to challenge myself to learn how to bake exceptional gluten-free goodies. I have an especially important person to bake for who now needs to exclude gluten from her diet – our very own daughter, Rebecca. She was recently diagnosed with celiac disease, an autoimmune condition that tells her that gluten is her enemy.
For Rebecca, the major symptom is migraine headaches. To have found a silver bullet is utterly amazing; we are supremely hopeful. Her overriding emotions are relief and appreciation for the doctor who suggested she get tested – and I am going to send my Gluten-Free Best Brownies as a thank you!
There are many delicious desserts that are naturally gluten-free, and I will be selling Rebecca’s all-time favorite cookie (even prior to her diagnosis) this Saturday. This Salted Peanut Butter Cookie with dark chocolate chips is not the cross-hatched PB cookie of your childhood. This one is rounded and plump, featuring a soft interior with a sprinkle of flaky Maldon salt on top. When I asked Rebecca to describe it for you, she said, “It is fudgy, sweet, goodness! They taste raw in the best way!”

Also new this week: Big Crumb Rhubarb Coffee Cake with boulder-sized crumbs atop a sour cream coffee cake. It's a dangerous combination of tart fruit, sweet crumb, and tender cake! Make sure to pre-order one! (Please note: Cake will not have confectioner's sugar on top as Saturday's market heat will melt it! Dust it with abandon at home.)
