No-Cost Marketing Services for Small Farmers & Food-Based Businesses in Northwest Region

NORTHWEST LOWER, MI – Together in partnership, the teams at the Northwest Michigan Small Business Development Center (MI-SBDC) and Taste the Local Difference (TLD), are working together to offer no-cost marketing services to small farmers and food-based businesses in the Northwest region. A soft launch of this program was rolled out in January and five small businesses are now working with both the SBDC and TLD on a variety of marketing needs from creating online stores, developing social media content, third-party media strategy, and more. Priority is given to businesses with ten or fewer employees and they must be for-profit entities.

“The Northwest region has been a leader in the state of Michigan’s ‘buy local movement’ for nearly twenty years and we know that it’s important for our small farmers, growers, producers, and other food-based businesses to get some much-needed help as well. We’ve chosen to lend priority to those smaller sized operations as they weren’t often eligible for other traditional disaster assistance or grant relief programs,” said Annie Olds, Northwest MI-SBDC Regional Director at Networks Northwest......Continue Reading

Short’s Brewing Co. is owning February with Short’s-est Month Campaign and Lil’ Huma

February—known in Northern Michigan for grey skies and snow. Lots and lots of snow. For many, hibernation calls. But for Short’s, a company known for loving where they live and wild antics, it’s the perfect time to get out and get active.

“The past couple years we’ve used this February campaign to give away tickets to our annual Anniversary party in April, but with the anni party cancelled, we decided to focus on something to get people moving, connect them to the outdoors, and enjoy what their outdoor community has to offer.” Pauline Knighton-Prueter, Sales Director for the brand reports.

So for the shortest month of 2021, the brewery is going big and giving away 28 Adventure Session Prize packs—one for every day of the month—to coincide with their most recent product launch, a session IPA called Lil’ Huma. One Grand Prize valued at over $1,000 includes a Garmin fēnix watch, Cotopaxi hip pack, and tons of sweet Short’s swag. 27 Runner Up prize winners will get everything but the watch.*

The Music House Museum Is Proud To Present "The Kiss"
A Silent Movie
Starring Greta Garbo and Accompanied by Organist Andrew Rogers

Feb 14 at 7 pm – Feb 21 at 8:30 pm

Please tune in to our second virtual silent movie, the 1929 classic The Kiss, starring Greta Garbo, accompanied by organist Andrew Rodgers. The Music House Museum will be streaming live via a link you can purchase HERE. We will be starting at 7:00 PM on Sunday, February 14 but you can watch anytime you want through February 21.
The Kiss is a 1929 American silent drama film directed by Jacques Feyder and starring Greta Gabo, Conrad Nagel, and Lew Ayre in his first feature film. Based on a short story by George M. Saville, The Kiss bears the same title as the1896 short that "shocked" the American public by being the first motion picture to depict a couple kissing. This 1929 production is notable itself for being the last major silent film released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and the final silent performances by both Garbo and Conrad Nagel. Re: Weekly Update

Hello, Everyone!

For most of us, Valentine’s Day is all about hearts and the color red, but it wasn’t always so. It wasn’t until the 1700s in Britain that the holiday started to be Valentine's Day that we recognize today. Legend has it that on February 14th, around the year 270 CE (formerly AD), Valentine, a holy priest in Rome in the days of Emperor Claudius II, was beheaded. While in jail, Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer’s daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it “From Your Valentine.” By Editors My sister found this “Valentine” in her button collection and shared a picture! Both our mother and grandmother were great button collectors. They enjoyed going to Button Club meetings and searching for special buttons to complete their competition cards. We have been exploring all the buttons we inherited—glass, pearl, bone, early plastics, wood, and metal, including copper................... Continue Reading
