Statewide Sick Leave Bill Moves to Full House
The House of Delegates Economic Matters Committee gave a favorable recommendation to HB1, that would require all employers in the state to provide paid sick leave. Unfortunately, this bill does not include language that preempts Montgomery County from having a law different from the rest of the state. Concerned about our members that have operations in multiple jurisdictions and would need to comply with multiple laws, GSSCC has urged that the bill be amended to assure that there is only one sick leave law in Maryland. The bill is likely to move through the House as is unless legislators can be persuaded to amend it. GSSCC will also be working to have amendments made to the companion bill in the Senate.
