YOUmedia Albany Ribbon Cutting
April 10 at Albany Branch Library
YOUmedia Albany Ribbon Cutting with Rep. Joshua Hall, Steve Harris, HPL Board Member, Senator Douglas McCrory, Elizabeth Lane, Albany Branch Manager, Mayor Luke Bronin, Bridget Quinn-Carey, HPL CEO, Joyce Mandell, and YOUmedia teens
Building a sense of community for teens is the goal of the new YOUmedia Albany — a next-generation digital learning and creative space. And on April 10, with a snip of the ceremonial scissors, leaders with the Hartford Public Library, students, and elected officials thanked the Mandell-Braunstein Families for their generous donation to make this creative centerpiece of the Library’s Albany Branch a reality. We'd also like to thank the Weaver Class of 1967 for their generous support.

The Big Read: Walk About
Thursday, April 19, 5:30 pm
Albany Branch Library

Can you tell how someone thinks by looking at the way they walk? Does body language reveal what you think about yourself? Can it tell you something about others? Improvisational movement can give you a glimpse into what it’s like to be someone else’s shoes. Everyone is invited to an action packed, rhythmic, improvisational experience, guaranteed to get you thinking about how movement can bring us to a deeper understanding of our place as Citizens.

Workshop run by Victoria Christgau, pictured, Executive Director of the CT Center for Nonviolence, and Warren Hardy, founder of HYPE.

Baby Grand Jazz Series:
The Bossa Nova Project
Sunday, April 15, 3 pm
Center for Contemporary Culture

The Bossa Nova Project was founded by Brazilian singer-songwriter/pianist, Isabella Mendes. The project was inspired by the original Bossa Nova movement which took place during the Brazilian “Golden Era” in the ‘60s, when Brazil was booming culturally, socially and economically. The goal of the Bossa Nova Project is to replicate that original intent: to share beautiful music with others, to bring people together and to bring happiness to the world.

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 2:00 pm.

Hartford Public Library now offers new overflow accommodations within the Library where you can view the livestream of every Baby Grand Jazz performance. Come to rooms 140 and 141 to watch. They will be available until filled to capacity.

HPL will livestream all concerts and post them for later viewing on its website. Visit for more details.

This series is made possible by the  Kaman Foundation.
A special thanks to all of our donors and sponsors who help make these programs possible.
