"It's not just a race. It's a party for us."
— Ricardo Corral
Ricardo has been an athlete since the 70s, even winning a bronze medal for swimming and a silver medal in Tae Kwon Do. He lost his left leg after a car accident in the 90s which he says was a dark period. He spent a few years no longer wanting to participate in sport anymore, that is, until he met Achilles International.
"In my country, I never saw an amputee participate in sports. Achilles inspired me to do races and I now try to do the same thing for others," says Ricardo, who volunteers at our weekly adaptive cycling workouts.
He says the Achilles Hope & Possibility® race is special because it feels "like a family. We all start together. Kids, blind people, amputees, handcyclists, runners. It's not just a race. It's a party for us."
