Richard Stein Appointed to the

California Arts Council 

Arts Orange County’s Richard Stein has been appointed to the California Arts Council by Governor Gavin Newsom. The California Arts Council is the state’s only public arts grants provider. Established in 1976, the CAC’s mission is to “strengthen arts, culture, and creative expression as the tools to cultivate a better California for all.” Rick is the first Orange County member of the CAC since prominent philanthropist and lawyer Wylie Aitken left the council in 2015.

Moulton Museum Celebrates Pioneer Spirit 

David Nichols, a docent at the Moulton Museum, unfurls a Union flag given to the Moulton family by George Washington. 

Each year, the Moulton Museum celebrates “Arrival Day” on May 6, as it is when a young Lewis Moulton first set foot in South Orange County from the East Coast in 1874. He went on to become a pivotal figure in the development of the region. The small museum opened its doors in 2022 in a strip mall in Laguna Hills. A permanent exhibit features a wealth of items from the Moulton family collection, while an adjacent gallery displays fine art related to the area’s past.

New Downtown Laguna Beach Space for Surfing Heritage & Culture Center

In 1999, Dick Metz founded the Surfing Heritage & Culture Center in its current location set in an industrial area of San Clemente about 2.5 miles away from the beach. Metz, now 95, envisioned moving to a building closer to the ocean in a high-traffic beach town. After years of searching, a building in the heart of downtown Laguna Beach has been identified.

Spectrum News 1 SoCal Features Orange County Children’s Therapeutic Arts Center

Santa Ana’s Orange County Children’s Therapeutic Arts Center was recently featured by in a special segment by Spectrum News 1 SoCal. OCCTAC is celebrating its 25th anniversary, having been founded by Dr. Ana Jimenez-Hami as a space for learning and self-expression for disadvantaged youth.
