Join us on a guided community ride along the Feeder Canal Park. Co-sponsored by Friends of the Champlain Canal Trail & Feeder Canal Alliance.

We'll meet near the Rock Hill parking lot and convene together for dinner @The Shirt Factory Thursday Market & Food Truck Corral.

Start & End: Glens Falls Shirt Factory, 71 Lawrence St.

Meet at 4:30 (wheels down at 4:45)

Ride to Overlook Park with a history of how the 1824 Feeder Dam and surrounding civil engineering works supplied vital water to power regional commerce and the lumber industry.

Ride from Overlook Park to the end of the Feeder Canal trail at the Five Combines, where the park meets the Empire State Trail.

HISTORICAL BIKE TOUR

We were thrilled to guide a bicycle tour with our like-minded friends @Adirondack Architectural Heritage in August. Executive Director, Erin Tobin, has a passion for coal silos...just so happens we had five of them to show off!

These early 1900s canal-side coal silos were originally part of the the Griffen Lumber Company in Hudson Falls, NY, where a horse-powered pulley system was used to hoist coal from canal barges. The coal was primarily used to heat area businesses and residences.

Re-named the Howard Raymond Field School in 2018, the property was originally donated by the Touba Family to the Feeder Canal Alliance in 2011. (Howard is pictured above sharing his knowledge about the five combines with AARCH).

That same year, the Alliance orchestrated a major preservation project, backed by $450,000 in donations and state grants. We were able to save the structures from disrepair, and today, the landmarks serve as an educational space hosting open houses, local history exhibits, and school programs.

A Celebration of Sharing the Outdoors

Summer ended with a bang last weekend at the Five Combines in Hudson Falls. The gorgeous day provided a perfect setting for a nature scavenger hunt, cycling on the Empire State Trail, a canal lock system demonstration, and children's art activities. All activities were free and open to all!
