BikeMatch Moco Makes Donation Easy
Remember that bike that’s been sitting in the garage for quite a while now? It’s time to get some use out of it! With Montgomery County’s BikeMatch program, you can donate your bike to someone who needs one. Whether it's for traveling to work, running important errands, or helping those who cannot leave their homes right now, BikeMatch helps make all of this possible.

To donate your bike or receive one, there are a few things you need to know:

  • Only bikes in ready-to-ride condition may be donated.
  • Bikes being donated must be thoroughly cleaned with soap and water or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Bike recipients should feel free to bring disinfectants as well.
  • Bike exchanges should be made outdoors, contactless, and while observing the CDC’s physical distancing guidelines. Masks and gloves should also be worn.
  • Please refrain from participating if you have a fever or cough or have been exposed to someone who has a fever or cough.
  • For sanitary purposes, all bike exchanges are permanent. However, if you find you no longer need the bike and it is still in good condition, the bike may be donated back for someone else to use.

Rockville and Shady Grove Metro Stations Are Open
The Rockville and Shady Grove Metro Stations have been renovated and are now open. 

The Shady Grove station’s canopy was repaired, the canopy over the Rockville station’s platform was replaced, both stations got brand new escalators and roofing, and Metro installed an improved track between Rockville and Shady Grove.

Make the Pledge and Join Us in Supporting Electric Vehicles
Ready to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions? You can make your electric vehicle (EV) dreams come true with the help of MCDOT and Montgomery County DEP. Our online education and resource hub will answer questions, support unique local benefits for EV drivers, and make EV ownership attractive, convenient and cost-effective. 

The first phase of our EV program will run through spring of 2022, so Make the Pledge and learn more about lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
Combatting Omicron: Keeping Metro Riders and Employees Safe
Metro has reduced service schedules and introduced new precautionary actions as of Monday, January 10. Due to the recent surge in COVID-19 variants, Metro’s Pandemic Task Force has implemented the following protocols to keep passengers safe: 

  • Metrorail will continue to operate on all lines as scheduled, with customers experiencing more frequent service at stations served by multiple lines. 
  • Metrobus will reduce service on weekdays to a Saturday schedule with additional trips on some routes. Bus operators will bypass customers not wearing masks for their health and safety. Metrobus customers are advised to consider alternative sources of transportation like Metrorail to travel throughout the region. 
  • MetroAccess will reduce shared rides and increase accessibility rides. For more information about MetroAccess, please visit wmata.com/metroaccess. 

As Metro’s customer service call center operators are currently remote, there will be no changes in hours of operation. Metro employees will be held to vaccine or testing policy compliance to help combat serious illness and the spread of COVID-19 variants in order to keep all passengers safe.

Top Tips for a Warm and Safe Ride
It’s chilly out there! As the winter weather continues, check out these safety tips for a warm and safe commute.

  • Leave early and plan for delays.
  • Bundle up!
  • Watch your step when boarding or stepping off the bus.
  • Stay visible by wearing light rather than dark colors.
  • Stand clear of the curb.
  • Get a SmarTrip Card. You can even put it on your phone to pay for fares rather than leave your hands out in the cold!
  • Use RideOn’s Trip Planning App to stay on top of bus delays and arrivals.

MCDOT is practicing safety, too! All bus interiors and ventilation systems are cleaned on a nightly basis with hospital-grade disinfectant, and all MCDOT buses have masks for those who cannot provide their own.
