How Great Is Our God

“But the holy Lord God All-Powerful is praised” (Isaiah 5:16, CEV).

Before you read this devotion, listen to: “How Great is Our God” by Chris Tomlin.

Lyrics: “Age to age He stands. And time is in His hands. Beginning and the end. Beginning and the end. The Godhead Three in One. Father, Spirit and Son. Lion and the Lamb. Lion and the Lamb.”

Have you ever truly considered the greatness of creation? What about the greatness of God? Have you ever taken a long drive out into the country, far away from the glow of the city, to find yourself surrounded in empty, open space? Away from every point of connection, have you ever looked up at the expanse of the heavens and found yourself captured by the beauty of life beyond your own? Of how little our own lives feel when presented with such a grand stage of the unexplored before us?

It’s a humbling experience to consider something so great. It’s the same feeling when we meet someone famous or when we observe a work of great architecture. The greatness of an object or person repositions our view of ourselves even as we look at something else. Certainly the same can be said of the greatness of God. Scripture speaks to the subject to create a sense of wonder and awe in us. But there’s much more to that greatness that’s also explored by the scriptures.

Genesis 1:1 grandly states that “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth,” but let us not forget in Psalm 139:13. There David acknowledges, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

Part of what makes God great is that he is just as much a God of the entire universe as He is the God who has known you intimately from before there was time. He is also faithful (1 Cor. 1:9), eternal (Deut. 33:27), holy (Isa. 5:16), and any number of other descriptors we can come up with using our feeble vocabulary. And yet He is infinitely more than any of these characterizations.

The God who has been worshipped around the world for thousands of years is the same God we worship today. Omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient, there is no one like Him in the universe. The same God who knows what the future holds in store for the nations and keeps the earth from spinning off its axis and sending us to oblivion is also the same God who knows the number of hairs on our heads (Luke 12:7) and is always by our side (Hebrews 13:5b).

Truly He is great and greatly to be praised.

Upcoming Series: This Sunday

God is: _______?

What do you believe about God?

We all grew up thinking certain things about God that were shaped by what we heard, saw, or perhaps were taught. While many were based on Scripture, some were not. If we look closely, most of us have a few ways we view God that might not line up with what the Bible says.

In this series, we'll unpack four characteristics of God that everyone needs to understand. Unlocking these biblical truths will help us understand who He is and what kind of relationship He desires with everyone.

Volunteer Recognition Sunday

Ridge Appreciation - Month of September

We can't do Sundays without you!

We're taking a full month to celebrate the impact of those who serve within The Ridge family. At least once a year, we like to to shine a light on the people who lend their time and talents to make a difference!

If you currently serve on a Sunday rotation, we want you to join us for a fun time during the volunteer worship time on Sunday mornings during the month of September. And if you aren't on a serving team but would like to join a team, email Dawn Traywick and let us know: click here.

- Click HERE for more information and to register for FYR -

Open to students in 6th through 12th grade.

Widow Support Group

The Widow Support Group of The Ridge Church is being developed to promote care and support for the ladies in the church and in the community who have lost their spouse.

First gathering will be held at Cheddars on September 25th at 6pm.

For more info, please contact Jessica Underwood: click here.

We're looking forward a great new semester!

Group options are now available.

Journey Groups are less about what you do and more about who you do it with. We believe that real life change and growth happens in groups. While you can't do life with everyone, Journey Groups create a space where you can do life with others.

*Men's Group (lunch or dinner). Thursday afternoon study and monthly dinner groups.

*Women's Group (study or dinner). Monday night study and monthly dinner groups.

*Sunday morning Study on Ephesians. (9:15am/Brookstone). Since you're already at church, why not join a group that meets before worship? See below for study details.

*Ridge Rally (Sept. 15th/18th). "Beyond The Birds And Bees." Please join us for one of the two dates. We'll be in touch with the details.

*Student Ministry. Our students meet on Sunday evenings at The Ridge office.

*Start A Group. You don't need to have it all together to lead a group - you just have to be willing to let God use you!

To register for one of these options, please: click here.

Our Group Coordinator (Dawn Traywick) will be in touch with the details. If none of these groups fit, maybe consider starting your own group with a few friends.

Sunday Morning Study

Let’s be honest, things are a tad more difficult now.  Prices are going up; the value of money is going down. Riches seem to come and go with such ease.  What if we could find the kind of wealth that could change our lives and attitudes?  In this study, we’ll look at all the wonderful things that God provides to those who believe: a Christian home, the work of the Holy Spirit, victory over Satan, etc.  What if God has already provided more than enough?  What if you’re already rich in His blessings?  This study will help us understand how we’re already “Blessed Beyond Measure!”

Starts Sunday, October 2nd

Registration: click here. Email us and let us know you're interested.

Clement Care

Clement Care is a partnership between Clement Arts, Live the Promise, and local churches who seek to establish foster care ministries within their congregations. They carry out this mission by equipping churches to support local foster & adoptive families, and biological families in crisis. By training churches on how to create and lead successful Family Advocacy Ministries (FAMs), they work toward seeing every child in a safe and loving family, forever.

Please email us and let us know if you are interested in learning more about being involved in this ministry: [email protected].

Parent and Student GroupMe

We have a student and a parent GroupMe account to help keep everyone up to date on what's going on in student ministry. GroupMe is a group texting app that's a great forum for staying connected and asking questions. It can be muted, so you won't get notifications constantly. If you or your student would like to be added, just text or email Nathan at 706-464-7548 and [email protected].

September Theme - Courage

This September at RidgeRunners, our theme is Courage, based on

Joshua 1:9: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Masks are optional on Sunday morning. If you wish to send your child with a mask, we will support that and will require them to wear it while at RidgeRunners. Extra kn-95 masks are available in the greeting area near kid's check-in.

Hi, Parents!

We've re-opened our Pre-K room on the Turner Auditorium main hallway. Children who are potty-trained through Pre-K5 should be dropped off in the upstairs hallway. Look for the banner outside their room. Infants through Toddlers will remain in the last classroom on the right in separate areas of the room. Kindergarten through Elementary will continue to meet in the gym. Check in at the hallway table just inside the Turner Auditorium doors.

Car Talk:

*Why are we sometimes afraid to do the right thing?

*What is happening this week that you need courage to do?

*What is right but not popular?

*How does it help knowing God is with you?

Memory Verse (learn it together):
