Ridgeland Elementary School Votes!

In the lead-up to local and national elections, our scholars held their own election. Kindergarteners at Ridgeland Elementary School used their unique expertise to determine their grade’s favorite cookie: Oreo vs. Chocolate Chip. Oreo WINS! To celebrate their successful participation in the democratic process, the voters got to celebrate with a snack featuring their elected favorite cookie.

Continue the Penny Sales Tax Referendum Passes

Greetings, Jasper County,

Thank you to all the stakeholders who have chosen to support Jasper County School District and its vision for the future. The community has said they support our schools by saying yes to both referendum questions.

Question #1: Authorizes the continuation of the 1% education sales tax.

Results: 53% Yes and 47% No

Question #2: Authorizes the issuance of bonds using the proceeds from the 1% sales tax.

Results: 56% Yes and 44% No

A few facts:

  • Projected Annual Revenue Generated conservatively estimated at $8,450,000 per year increasing 1% per year through 2040.

  • A significant portion of sales taxes in Jasper County are paid by non-residents.

  • Under the plan, debt service millage in the School District will not increase.

  • The sales tax will continue generating revenue for critical school facility projects.

  • Help fund the construction and renovation of educational buildings without raising property taxes.

  • Ensure we provide safe and modern learning environments for our students.

What do we plan to do with the funds?
