MeHI Awards $190,000 to Reduce Healthcare Costs
|

MeHI, the Massachusetts eHealth Institute at MassTech, recently awarded $190,000 to two grantees who are working with Massachusetts employers to reduce healthcare costs: Fitbit is conducting a randomized control trial with UMass Memorial Health Care employees to better prevent and manage cardiometabolic diseases, and Vincere Health to conduct a pilot of their smartphone-connected smoking cessation solution with Boston Medical Center employees. Massachusetts Sandbox Spotlight: MITRE
|
|
Massachusetts is home to a variety of cutting-edge research and development facilities, or ‘sandboxes.’ These organizations provide a wide range of services supporting the lifecycle of validation and testing for digital health companies. MITRE is one of the nine sandboxes in the Massachusetts Digital Health Network. MITRE’s digital health sandbox provides open source tools like Synthea and related expertise to support the digital health community. Through public-private partnerships and federally funded R&D centers, MITRE works across government and in partnership with industry to discover new possibilities, create unexpected opportunities, and lead by pioneering together for the public good to bring innovative ideas into existence. The $100,000 Synthetic Health Data Challenge
|
|
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services, is inviting providers, researchers, and developers to participate in their multi phased Synthetic Health Data Challenge. Participants are expected to develop innovative tools and resources that support validation and novel uses of synthetic data for researchers and/or health IT developers. The Challenge is an important component of the Synthetic Health Data Generation to Accelerate PCOR Project and utilizes the Synthea™, a synthetic health data engine managed by MITRE. Up to six winners will be selected for prizes ranging from $10,000 – $50,000. The deadline to apply for Phase I is March 3rd. Read more.

Watertown’s athenahealth and Humana of Louisville announced a multi-year agreement to develop a new feature for electronic health records that will give providers real-time insights into Humana patients’ health needs. The insights will come from an analysis of Humana’s insurance data. The pilot for the new features is expected to rollout in the second and third quarter of this year.
